it would be annoying if stkilda and geelong sort of teams win before us, because we have been playing finals more times in a row!
Is there too much pressure to play finals?

The game plan nearly got us across the line last weekend against the Roos when we showed no skill level at all. That suggests that Paul Roos could coach a RWO team to victory. Think how well the Swannies will go when they start kicking goals!Originally posted by footyhead
But it's not looking very good IMHO. Not just based on this years form, but because the game plan sucks.Comment

That?s simply untrue.Originally posted by footyhead
Yes but before those 3 years most of those teams had a regroup after falling down the ladder.
If we look at the previous 6 years results for the premiers, the trend doesn?t alter greatly. It still shows that Adelaide are the only premiers to have come from the clouds; all of the other premiers made the finals in at least 4 of the previous 6 seasons.
96 ? North Melbourne (6-3-3-12-8-6)
97 ? Adelaide (13-11-11-5-9-9)
98 ? Adelaide (4-13-11-11-5-9)
99 ? Kangaroos (1-7-2-6-3-3)
00 ? Essendon (1-1-14-6-4-10)
01 ? Brisbane (6-3-16-8-3*-8*)
02 ? Brisbane (2-6-3-16-8-3*)
03 ? Brisbane (2-2-6-3-16-8)
04 ? Port Adelaide (1-1-3-3-14-7)
*I have used the finishing position of the Brisbane Bears in 95 and 96.Last edited by bricon; 7 April 2005, 04:18 PM.Comment

Spot on Glenn!Originally posted by Glenn
Of course the goal of every team at the start of the year is to be playing finals football, you don't say "well we are just making up the numbers, we have no chance of making the finals"
Every team wants to win the Flag, but in reality only 8 teams can so of course there will be pressure to make the eight not only from the team themself, but also supporters, sponsors, media etc, how the team copes with that pressure is up to themWell done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.
Your determination, your tenacity and your under-rated skill is why you have become my favourite player!Comment

I'm not close to the club's inner circle, but I bet they are looking for a flag, and see finals experience as the way there, not an end in itself.
Our best chances in recent times were 1996 and 2003. In both cases we had injuries to crucial players (Lockett, to an extent, and O'Brien in '96, Ball and Magic in'03) and lacked the depth to field adequate replacements. Finals footy is the best way to blood and build that depth. Can the present squad do it? Only if they stay fit and all turn up to play.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team.
