Copeland focused on Swans AFL clash

The Lions are just a week away from almost being at full strength with stars Simon Black and Jamie Charman set to make timely returns from suspension against Hawthorn at the MCG.
Voss will carry four stitches into the match after cutting his right calf in a freak accident at home early last week while Lappin has recovered from a niggling ankle injury.
Voss, will come up a bore sore during the game depending how bad the cut was, IMO, unless he gets a jab. -

I hate the Age's registration / log-in system.
Brisbane first needs to overcome "bogey-team" the Swans at the Gabba on Saturday night before welcoming Black and Charman back to the fold.
Sydney possesses a remarkable record against the three-time premiers having won three of their previous six encounters between the teams.
The Swans' defensive flooding tactics have come under heavy criticism from former players in recent years but it seems to work against Brisbane.
The Lions, usually potent goalkickers, were restricted to just seven goals and 51 points against Sydney in the side's last meeting.
Copeland admitted that Brisbane had discussed the Swans' spoiling tactics but they were confident they could get the better of their opponents in the rivalry-round.
"They bottle it up, like to congest it, get everyone around the footy and make it a scrappy game.
"So we'll play to that and if we have to play that way then we'll do it."Comment

I thought it was only our defence and a couple of midfielders who flood back that cause the congestion. The whole footy world is getting a little bit paranoid and making generalisations.
Tell me who in the forward line would like to play scrappy footy - Hall? O'Loughlin? Davis? Schneider? Okeefe? or Goodes?
I think these guys have enough talent to be able to win the one on one contest - stop giving genuine Swans fans crap about us loving scrappy games when WE have the talent in the forward line!!!!!!Comment

We have the talent but it is not utilised enough because the ball coms in too slowly due to the slow clearing from defense and poor skills of the midfieldVisit my eBay store -

I just get this feeling this week you will see something different.
If Spriggs is in the team, it will mean further running and carrying power in the midfield. Will let someone like Willo to move back to a half back position and hopefully link up with Kennelly & Leo to provide greater rebound and direction from defence. Could even throw in a Fosdike in as well and instruct the team to run em off their feet.
I also hope they select another key marking option as well. Just to give the forward line another target and make us a little less predictable.
For me:
In: Spriggs, Saddington
Out: Bevan, Scheinder

"Looking forward to a rebuilt, new, fast and exciting Swans model in 2010"

Spriggs may change the game style and give us more run. Good luck to him (and us). But I don't think Leigh Matthews is stupid enough to fall for the common view - he'll accuse the Swans of flooding and manning up while that will be exactly his instructions (or has been in the past).
One bit that will be interesting is that the Lions have decided to go the thug option in the Grand Final and the first two rounds this year. It'll be interesting to see how the Swans respond to a strong opposition playing the mongrel.Comment
