    Fitness

Fitness is the only reason the Swans won tonight. An advantage they will soon out grow as soon as all teams become match fit.
The 1st 3 qtrs by the Swans sucked!!
How very hard and sad for Swans supporters to witness such abysmal football by such an insipid side as this Paul Roos coached Swans team.
We the club and it's supporters, have made a terrible mistake.
While many will say this is the mistake of Paul Roos, actualy it is the mistake of the administration who have let the fear of fiscal failer permeat their judgment when it comes developing a team with winning culture.
Surely the past 20-30 years in the AFL has proved that only one thing is garrenteed of enduring in the AFL.
That is the freak of a coach who has that golden knack. The one who as a player stood out amoungst his peers in some way extraordinary, as a freak either by their violent and determined nature, or their astutness and resolout nature.
Paul Roos is not this, the club has not yet delivered.
Today the only thing that made us respectable in the last quarter was our supperior fitness.
I again Call upoun all Swans supporters to demand a great footballing culture in Sydney.
That is the only way we will come up with a real contender of a team. A team who leads from the front with confidance and their heads over the ball for 4 quarters of football.
Beating the lions a couple of times here and there is nice enough, but no longer can we fool ourleves that we are a patch on the culture and achievments of the great Brisbane Lions, who under Mathews have proven their true worthiness of endvour year in Year out.
Something has to be done at the Swans or else the inteligence of the Sydney supporters will have been insulted too much by such a boring ,insipid and sad a brand of football. One could understand them turning off the game altogether!

    LOL!

Undoubtedly we were very lucky, but I simply we take some key lessons from this game. We'll see next week.

I put the win down to the injuries to two Lions midfielders, which denied the Lions an adequate midfield rotation.

...and umpiring, and Bris inaccuracy. But they still came back from 32 pts to win by playing footy, not chip kick and hand ball @@@@

I thought the umpiring was pretty bad on both sides, maybe it just favoured us a little

I think the Swans outlasted the Lions tonite and were playing the better footy at the end. If you look at the stats they turned around pretty markably in the final quarter - as Roos said - its a confidence thing - confidence to play the Swans game - and when its played well the Swans are pretty devastating.

I disagree FH - Roos is astut and resolout. And so were the team in the final quarter.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Very much so Dann, Sydney definitly made all the running in the last quarter(well they didn't do much in the first three) and backed themselves and it paid dividends

I have to ask footyhead, were you excited and cheering them on in the last quarter or frowning muttering "only bloody fitness"?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Some people are never happy are they.

Anyone else remember 3/4 time against the Dees on Anzac Day in 2003 - 1-3 for the season, 20 odd points down and looking lethargic and disorganised. I was beginning to believe they wouldn't win another game all year.

That night, too, they dug deep and found something, and while the first three quarters of the game needed to be buried somewhere deep in the vaults, it reminded the team that they can actually play a bit.

Tonight may not have been pretty, they were helped by Brisbane's ordinary goal kicking and maybe by some of the most bizarre umpiring ever, but when it was there to be won they did it.

                            I'll take that.

The 2nd and 3rd quarter umpiring was so crazy. I think it probably favoured us, if either side, but the amount of 50s (and all for talking back) was insane. Add Aker's dramatics (how many times did we hear "Aker's gone down"?) and general spite - it made for some fiery football.
