Yep. Tonight should have definitively ended the case for so-called "tempo footy".

It doesn't work. What works is the players backing themselves to be better than the opposition.

It was back to 2003 - urgent, committed direct footy. And the pressure we put on in the last quarter meant that Brisbane made as many mistakes as we did, if not more. Roos is right - when the skills are adequate, the results follow.

fantastic football... what can i say. the 4th quarter showed what the swans are capable of when we back ourselves and press forward... maybe the most enjoyable game (or rather final quarter) of football ive seen.
cant stop smiling.. cheer the red and the white.. lets keep this back to basic footy going - back our skill level and speed, so at least if we go down we go down firing!

Wasn't that the ultimate game of tempo footy though?

Yes yes yes! Sydney just have to believe in themselves when they play that fast, attacking style of football and they can beat anyone.

blight was bloody awesome in commentry


a few times he seemed to be forgetting his where we was, like talking to in response to umpires and going oohhh ahh and stuff which was good of course, was like he was just sitting in a loungeroom.

Felt like he has missed footy (esp. sydney) he seemed to wonder what the hell was happeneing and so on.

But he was very insightful and i think gave an insight into why he is one of the greatest people to play and coach

Basic footy and a more basic field line up. i.e. have a full forward, have half-forwards, have small, crumbing forwards. Stop wasting players in the midfield (I am looking at O'Keefe especially).

I was a bit put off with his whinging at the start (actually most of the 1st half) but even then he gave credit for the hard tackling at least.
The points he was making about the ruck were good I thought.
(ie giving the ruckmen more room and punching the ball)

Quartermaine (?) on the other hand comes across as a complete toss.

The scary thing is that when we do play that way, we can beat EVERY team in the competition.

The fact that we have won 4 of the last 5 matches with the Lions says it all, I guess.

I don't mean to sound like NMW, but I think its 4 of the last 6 (won 2 home and away in 2003 but lost PF, lost away and won at home in 2004, and won last night).
