The kid has taken a massive step up in his place in this team over the last season. Last night he pretty much single handedly kick started us into a winning fashion. The way he just got it and ran, didnt care who was running him down. He ad Aker chasing him and he just kept going. That same instance he ran the ball from deep in the back pocket and to beyond the centre line before handing it on. It showed so many memories of 2003 and the lads seemed to lift after he continually dashed out from the back line.
He also seemed to take on a more leadership like role in the backline, frequntly directing traffic and successfully setting up play.
We really do miss Schauble. Not just his strong body in defence, but the ability to free Leo and Craig Bolton further up the ground and provide more of that run from the half back flank that tears up opposition sides.

agree, agree, agree wholeheartedly. if not schauble, then maybe saddington can finally deliver. or, if saddo goes forward, nicks could play the role of the big defender. i keep dreaming that a solution is found, but the CHB conundrum so far has amounted to the shuffling of deck-chairs on the titanic (although the rest of our game is far from disasterous)

If Nicks could play as a big defender, he would have already. He is a HB flanker who can play forward.

Saddo has already been tried and failed at CHB.

yeah, but never say never. roos certainly hasn't in regards to saddington. nicks' to my eyes is about five kilos larger and much stronger than he was three/four years ago too.

merely slight possibilities though as i've implied.

He's still my pick for a future captain. Has all the necessary requirements: strong leadership on the field, eloquent in interviews, and charismatic and personable. Granted, I'm rather fond of him, but I really do think he'd make a great captain. Maybe not our next captain, but the one after that.

Yeah, I agree, but Tiger still has a way to go. I think either Kirk or Tadgh would be good as the next captain.

He tried in the third to get us going to no avail and kept at it into the fourth. He worked at it like he was trying to fire up an old lawn mower for the first mow of the year.

Agree with the points in the first post, and again emphasises the fact that we need Schaubs or a good FB. Bolton/Saddo good at third man up and then setting up play.

One little point that thrilled me was the goal to B1...Tiger was one of those getting it out in the first place, and kept on running and when Jude kicked it, Kennelly was beside him, still running hard, and was there for the option if needed.

And his Brisbane counterpart was nowhere to be seen.

The second half of that game reminded me just how much we miss Andrew Schauble.

Although with all due respect to him it's his effect on the others rather than him particulary that's most missed.
With him down back, the trickle down effect takes on. Leo in particular can move out move out of a key position and give us some drive, ditto B2. The same with Irish, seeing him blasting straight up the middle out of defence in the second half (with Akermanis chasing pointlessly behind) was wonderfull. In fact it fealt like 2003.

you're kidding right? Nicks played on Matera in last year's QF!! He turns 30 in May this year, and stands at 185cm tall. Where do you see CHB potential in this?

i agree, nicksy isnt a chb, he is a key part of our defence though, id play dempster at chb before nicks
