Illegal until the trial in the pre-season with them changed the ruling. Other teams wear them too.

I think they measure some vital functions too like heart-rate?

yep. they are gps loggers so they can not only record distance but the actual paths travelled. basically they can look at where he was, how fast he was going and where he was going to at any point of the game.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

Saw a few Port and Adelaide players wearing them in today's match as well.

Cyclists (tour de france etc) have been wearing heart rate monitors for years but they are just a single band around the chest.

                      Some more info

I hope it was the reporter who got his notes wrong rather than Ireland not being able to tell the difference between B1 and NOG.

If the data was available real-time, online score updates could show the positions of the players with cool as hell 3D player animations. The AFL should push for it!

But I think they are actually holsters for the pistols the players pack.

The Swans could be really innovative here as the players are having trouble following instructions they (the blue thingys) should include a DOH! device i.e player passes ball directly to opposition (say just like ...ummm Ben Mathews) Roos presses red button and 12000 volt DOH! penalty is sent to player.

We could probably trial in next years Wiz cup.

                            Cheers

would of been good to put one on plugger when he played, see if it got to 1 km!!!!!!
