In a 28 man squad for Saturday night, McVeigh was named in the back pocket. Is this meaningful, do you think? Surely he isn't going to be played, after they said he was unlikely to play at all this year?
McVeigh named in starting 18.

Well, I assume they will play him if his contribution is required, and if they feel he's ready for it.
You can say whatever you want pre-season, but you have to play each ball on its merits, and if that includes throwing McVeigh in... Well so be it. Mind you that is a VERY big squad, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him culled by Saturday.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Hmm, 28 man squad, I think it would be harder to be left out of the squad than be in it. McVeigh wasn't one of the emergencies last week.Comment

Yeh I saw the footy show and quite a few of the younger players were named in the squad as most teams did ( its wednesday ) so I really expect none of them to play - but mcviegh is an interesting one, as he was the only one of the crop of youngsters named in the starting 18. Maybe he has really impressed on the training track and that position is his for saturday unless someone can prove other wise before the game v hawks.
But naming him in the backpocket is strange as I dont think he can play there, but since when have coaches put in a team sheet which lines up just as they have put on paper on a thursday or should I say wednesday night !No.1 ticket holder of Nick Davis Fan Club...Comment

What would be so amazzing about naming MC Veigh ??
They played J. Saddington in round one of his first year, and besides the team needs a damn good kick up the bum for last weeks terrible first half. It's not as if it is the first time we have seen these players collectivley go missing in the first half of a game, nay not the second or third neither ! It is a return to an old problem that must be cut down and rooted out of the Swans Psyche !Comment

The reason I'd be surprised to see him play so early, was that his form in the Wiz Cup was nothing special. Hardly got a kick, and looked underdone. Probably mostly to do with the knee injury he had last year, which would have set him back a bit.
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it... if he does, then good on him. I'm just surprised to see it, that's all.We hate Anthony Rocca
We hate Shannon Grant too
We hate scumbag Gaspar
But Leo WE LOVE YOU!Comment

Who made way for him?- Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Noone has made way for him motor, they named a very early squad because the footy show was on a wednesday this week, so they named about a 27-28 man squad. Noone has been omitted yet, just a lot of players added to the squad that are in the mix to be selected for saturday night.No.1 ticket holder of Nick Davis Fan Club...Comment

Oh and by the way bloodhound the reason it is so amazing to see mcviegh in the starting 18 at the moment is that he has been our worst performed youngster so far in the preseason , and many others deserve a call up before him.No.1 ticket holder of Nick Davis Fan Club...Comment

Weren't Malceski,Powell and Sundqvist named on a very extended bench? Assuming they aren't demoted to emergencies and they keep ablett and Mcveigh in the starting squad then its worth abandoning the Foxtel, grabbing the train and heading for the G.The excitement of not knowing what to expect would be worth the effort.Persisting with basically the same starting line up hardly enthuses.Comment

Kool, but if named in the back pocket he has had to take someones spot from them- Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Also, if they are named in a position, rather than on the bench, doesn't that almost assure them of running on? Happened with Kennelly in 2001 - emergency again and again and again and then finally got named in the centres and got his first game up. Those on the bench are usually the ones to be cut first so who's named on the bench?
Are the final teams released tonight if it's a saturday game?Comment
