Well we have signed him till the end of 2007, so I'd say he expects to last that long - hopefully he can stay injury free for most, if not all, of that time.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
Originally posted by punter257 yeah he would be great for the flexibility of the team structure. how much do u reckon he would be worth a year? and do we have cap space?
i wonder what trade we would come up with if we got him
a lot, he would be hard to get im sure there are several teams who who jump at the chance to sign him, carlton and collingwood and essendon all need a player like him, though not many sides dont..
as for salary cap im not sure maybe wed have to let on of the midfielders go
Originally posted by Thunder Shaker Probably a first round draft pick plus a young player, or a straight player swap. It's trades like these that got us Maxfield and Schauble.
Except that Maxfield we kind of got for nothing, as a pre-season draft pick and Schaubs cost us a 2nd round pick and Mark Kinnear, who wasn't really worth anything given that he'd walked out on the club and walked out on the Pies less than 6 months later!
Koschitske would cost a far bit more, you'd think.

I thought we traded Gaspar for Maxfield, and Licuria for Schauble.
"Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi final

Gaspar for Maxfield was indirect. Gaspar had decided to leave the club anyway. The AFL guide says that we traded Gaspar for the pre-season pick that we used to get Maxfield, who was also out of contract at the Tigers. That wasn't quite how I remember if but I was new to footy at the time and my memory is pretty hazy. But in one sense I guess you could say that we gave one for the other.
Licuria was part of the trade for the no 3 pick that we used to draft Fosdike in 1998. There were more players or picks that changed hands too but can't quite remember - maybe Mark Orchard to them and Ben Wilson to us?

The AFL guide doesn't say that at all. It says we got Maxfield via 1 of the 2 (Kevin Dyson was the other) Uncontracted Player Selections we were allowed back then (last year it was in place for us). UPS had nothing to do with the draft and was done BEFORE the national draft and before Gaspar made his final decision to go.
Draft history: 1993 National AFL Draft priority selection (Sydney) No. 1 overall; 1996 Pre-Season compensatory selection No. 3 traded by Sydney for Stuart Maxfield.
Originally posted by liz IIRC Richmond got a compensatory pick the following year for losing Maxfield (and the Dees got one for losing Dyson).
Seems as though both Melbourne and Richmond got two compensatory picks for Maxfield and Dyson, however as I said before we got Maxfield BEFORE Gaspar made his final decision. We certainly didn't make a trade there, but Richmond still ended up with Gaspar as a result of us getting Maxfield.
