    Fossie and who to drop

Bernard: Do you think giving Nic Fosdike a 'run-with' role for a while might help his development as a midfielder?

Roosy: Nic has been in very good form playing in the seconds, and was close to playing last weekend. I think as long as he perseveres he will be back in the seniors shortly.
    :From Roosy responds

I think that Fosdike is a cert for the weekend, judging by Roosy's comments, with Mick a 50/50 based on fitness test.

I think Spriggs and Nicks are in the firing line, despite Crouch being our sides worst last week (we all know he is the love child) and hopefully he can rebound and actually stop his opponent.

I doubt if the possibility of dropping Crouch would have even been contemplated by a single person in the selection committee...

I wonder how much Crouch was caught up in the "record-breaking" game? I doubt he'd underperform two games in a row. And Aker was in awesome form (with his whole team backing him up in niggling Crouch). If all the players that Aker has beaten were dropped, we'd probably have to cancel the round.

Also, we are so used to the brilliant job that Crouch and Kirk do that we just discount a couple of their players each week (the way the Cats do with Scarlett). If there weren't as good as they are, Roos wouldn't have the luxury of the Swans nearly always setting the pace.

And people thought I was being harsh for suggesting that they drop ROK.

Crouch is laboring under the injury that has NOT healed! And I don't think you are too far off the mark with ROK, he certainly has not recaptured last years stunning form

[disgust]For Chrissakes, Crouch has 1 average game and you wanna drop his arse. [/disgust]

How can Spriggs be in the firing line after 1 game? For the time he had he did some pretty good stuff.

And as for Nicks: the dude virtually won the game with his relentless rebounding.

I think you're right, I think the bottom line is that no one will be dropped because of form, they will be relegated just because they're not the best 22 to face the Crows.

How good is it for Roosy and co to be able to do matchups using 25-26 guys as opposed to a set 22 that you have to shove a square peg in a round hole kind of thing.

Regardless of who Crouch is, and his staus in the team etc, it would be nigh on impossible to play a contact sport with such a high level of skill as Aussie Rules with an unhealed break to the collarbone.

What Crouch is most likely labouring under is a lack of match fitness - only playing matches can fix that.

                  Feisty but fair.

I thought Spriggs did some nice things and certainly deserves another chance ahead of Fosdike.

And Nicks made the odd blunder but his endeavour in the last quarter set up 2 goals that I can think of. I think you need to reward that sort of spirit.

I think Bevan will go out for O'Loughlin. He has been starting on the bench for the last ten weeks or so and has been only OK.

Nicks will be given one more chance to contribute WITHOUT coughing up a a couple of goals and several easy possessions.

Dempster needs to be rewarded for an excellent debut, surely.

Spriggs will get another go to see if he can do a better job than Bevan has been doing.

So my tip for the bench....

                    O'Loughlin, Nicks, Spriggs, Dempster

                    Emerg: Bevan, Fosdike, McVeigh

How one picks Spriggs ahead of McVeigh is a bit of a mystery to me but there you go.

Well it's academic now as Spriggs has been dropped for O'Loughlin.

The article on Mickey's comeback finishes with "David Spriggs, Nic Fosdike and Jarred McVeigh have been named as the emergencies against the Crows."

                        Agreed Johnny,

Anyone who undervalues Nick's spot in the team after last week's game has NFI.

I suspect some people were nodding off in front of the TV when he did his intercept and handball to Goodes for a goal.

One thing about Nick's is that he seems to find something in the last Q as does Willo. Take Nick's out of the side and you drop a level in team pace.

I am only too proud to have NFI! Nicks should be gone. He almost single handedly cost us the Roos match and the Lions match. Him making a couple of nice plays in the course of a whole game against the Lions was the LEAST he could do. But lets see if his mistakes can cost us another match...

Play Bevan in his role, Dempster at Bevan's Half Back/Half Forward role and get McVeigh into the team. The team instantly has more potential and is more dynamic.

I have no doubt that crouchs collar bone has healed completely. If he wasnt fit or he had troubles with it he would not put his hand up for selection. He is not that selfish to put himself first so we have seen.

As for the record i dont think he could honestly care less. He goes out there to do his job and that only anything else cums as a bonus.

Just cos you rank last in possessions doesnt make you the worst and worthy for dropping i dont think.
