    Reserves

Anyone going out to watch them at the early hour of 9.50am on Sunday?
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

        The Magoos did okay today.

        Swans: 34.22.226
        Lions: 2.3.15

        Grundy 7
        McVeigh 6
        Schneider 5
        Schmidt 3
        Vogels, Clarke, Willoughby, Schauble 2
        Moore, Potter 1
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Nope, only got there in time to see the last 5 minutes. He looked fit though, big and fit.

I just saw the final quarter and by then it was a completely ridiculous farce (a bit like the one that followed shortly after ). The ball barely got beyond the centre line and the Cygnets were just taking pot shots a lot of the time.

I was impressed though by the intensity they showed in keeping the ball in their forward 50 given the scoreline and the fact it was late in the game.

Very little pressure, of course, but McVeigh worked very hard and looked good.

Potter was very busy and hard at the contest. Not sure he's quite ready for AFL level yet (though maybe his intensity would have seen him through later in the afternoon).

Schmidt was another who did a couple of eye-catching things, like extending himself to take a mark low down on the ground when he could have been excused for just letting it to over the boundary line.

Thanks. You've got to start wondering about some of the lesser sides in this competition and wonder if they're hampering the development of our young'uns.

                        Grundy again .

What about Earl Shaw. We are very short of rucks right now. Willo out for a long time we might be able to promote him or Grundy.

Excuse my ignorance and lack of history knowledge. But what happened to the reserves competition? I.e. the reserves of each team playing each other before the match. When did it go?

The Vic teams have VFL affiliate clubs where their players not in the senior side play. In SA and WA, players are part of SANFL/WAFL clubs (not tied to a particular affiliate) while the Swans and Lions have their own side containing listed players not in the seniors plus top ups where necessary who play in the Canberra competition for the Swans and the QAFL for the Lions.

                              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
