Just looking at the Reserves Match report on the Swans main site.
LRT was named BOG for the Swans!
A few interesting things to note. The form of Hunt with 6 goals. Powell seems to be able to serve himself up forward aswell. Malceski seems to be getting in amongst the action. (and Dempster).
Interesting to see Paul Bevan named amongst the best there.
Reserves defeat UNSW Bulldogs in trial game
A sunny Saturday morning at Lakeside Oval was the setting for the Swans Reserves 32 point win in a practice match against University of NSW/East Sydney, after leading 14 goals to three at half time.
The first quarter saw the Swans kicking with the wind to lead the first quarter 7.4(46) to 1.0(1). Keys and Nick Malceski both ended the term with two goals apiece while Daniel Hunt finished with three after a snap from 20 metres out in the dying seconds.
Mark Powell kicked another goal 45 seconds into the second quarter after receiving the ball from Jarrad McVeigh. The next ten minutes saw an extremely tough period for both teams with tempers rising. Ryan O?Keefe and Paul Bevan were both amongst the action. Some efficient skills from the Swans starting at halfback and ending with a first-rate pass from Malceski to Powell resulted in another Swans goal. Powell then had a snap from 25 metres, giving him three goals for the quarter.
A goal to Lygoe, two more to Hunt and another to Keys brought the Swans' half time score to 14.5(89). University/Easts only managed two goals, including one on the siren, ending the first half 3.0(18) with the Swans looking totally in control of the game.
The third quarter, however, told an entirely different story with University/Easts dominating in a five goal to seven point quarter. The three quarter time score being 14.12(96) to 8.1(49).
The Swans began the final quarter as they did the first. A goal each to Malceski and Hunt, both from strong marks, 40 metres out had the Swans looking as if they would kick away to a huge lead again. University/Easts had other ideas though, kicking four goals to the Swans two, pushing the final score to 16.13(109) to 12.5(77).
Daniel Hunt ended the game with a stat topping six goals from full forward, while Lewis Roberts-Thomson?s efforts at both centre halfback and in the ruck were also commendable.
Next weekend sees the start of the AFL Canberra 2003 season, with the Swans to line up against Ainslie at Manuka Oval, Canberra (Sunday April 20, 2:10pm). With the sniff of senior selection in the air the Swans Reserves are dying to get out there and show what they can do. A mix of determination and excitement should make for a stellar season.
Final Score:
Swans Reserves: 7.4(46) 14.5(89) 14.12(96) 16.13(109)
University/Easts: 1.1 (7) 3.1 (19) 8.1 (49) 12.5 (77)
