Too bad he didn't get to play a game with his brother.

We needed Robbie Ahmat yesterday. Whatever happened to him? On a good day, he was explosive dynamite and a joy to watch charging down the wing.Occupational hazards:

Quote from Charlie:
If you consider Will Sangster, Andrew Bomford, Leigh Brockman and Brent Piltz as having actually 'played'
LOL....do we also count Daffy and Rhino Connor as actually having played also?"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."Comment

Swan Song - I reckon you knock off a third of that list, and we wouldn't miss any of them. I never realised how many duds we've had over the years until I compiled that list.
Jeffers - he's up to 98 with the addition of Dempster, Jolly and Spriggs yesterday. Number 100 will be... Tim Schmidt (after Willoughby makes it 99).We hate Anthony Rocca
We hate Shannon Grant too
We hate scumbag Gaspar

Shaw I have already nominated.
With Willo out we desperately need someone to take control in the midfield and be our skilful creator there. The only person in the team who looks remotely qualified for that at the moment is Nicky D (hopefully with B1 and Nog as able lieutenants). That means we desperately need another target up forward, someone tallish but also reasonable mobile. ROK can't be bothered to play that role at the moment, Micky O can't and it sounds like Saddo is struggling to get fully fit. We also need Goodes playing around the ground or at CHB if LRT doesn't get up.
My pick, therefore is Vogels. It will be a big step up for him in a short space of time but he's done everything asked of him thus far. He can take a grab and kick a goal. Playing against AFL quality defenders will be a challenge but at worst he can run around, create a target, and make space for Baz. If the opposition neglects him he make kick a goal or three.
After that, Malceski sounds the most likely, going by the BF rumour. He's not really an inside midfielder, more of a flanker, so if the rumours are true then maybe Roos' wrath is going to fall on Kennelly or O'Keefe.Comment

Glad you like the look of Vogels Liz. I saw the reserves play in Canberra and was impressed with his ability to take a mark, and to kick a goal. I have not seen enough of the reserves to really make any sort of informed prediction at all, but from the little I did see he would be one of my next three. I would really like to see Schmidt get a run soon too, probably in a pocket but given some time in the middle. I hope we have 4 or 5 debut this year along with Dempster. I heard Everitt on the radio the other day saying how much the young blokes at Hawtorn are inspiring the older blokes there, and how much they are all enjoying their footy (not suprising given they had belted the Lions less than 24hrs earlier). With Davis playing so much in the middle, lets get a kid in the forward pocket, playing 5-10 mins a qtr on the ball and giving Davis a rest up front.Comment

Would this be a fair summary of the chances of each player debuting?
Likely: Malceski, Willoughby, Schmidt
Possibly, in the event of injuries: Shaw, Moore, Vogels
Possibly, but unlikely: Davis, Erickson, Campbell, Grundy
Unlikely: Garubba, Hayes, Clarke, Potter? We hate Anthony Rocca

I know he's been making some blues so far but I still rate him and think he can contribute. And his most valuable contributions this year have been while he is up forward. He can mark, his kicking from a set shot or a snap is pretty good and - most importantly he can tackle. Even his current tendancy to take on the defenders might not matter quite so much up there because there's a chance that one or two times a game it will result in creating a goal out of nothing.
I also think that giving him a set role at the moment, even if its not the one where he might be of the greatest value long term, will help him settle back down and regain a bit of confidence.Comment

Davis is a way off because he's been out with injury but don't write him off for later in the year. Definitely liked what I saw of him last year.
And Campbell would be a huge plus for us if he can develop because he could maybe be that tall, strong defender that we're crying out for. Not sure he's done enough to gain selection yet, though his greater maturity could see him get the nod over Shaw if we have to bring another ruckman in.Comment
