Ben Mathews is one very ordinary footballer. Can't work out why he continues to get a game. It's more obvious that he's not up to it when we have a loss, and tends to get covered up when we win.

couldn't agree more - he drive me nuts and a hold my breath whenever he gets the ball knowing full well that his crap disposal will be a turnover and ususal a goal for the opposition.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

I personally call him "Ball-up Benny", as the amount of times he gets the ball in a tight contested situation he is intent on only dragging the ball in for another bloody ball-up - which chews the clock up and is no help to all and sundry (players, coaches, supporters etc etc). This also shows a lack of confidence in himself and teammates, no peripheral vision and no idea of the game situation.
I noticed in the game last week Bevan made a good play to get the ball, however at the end, when he was over it, Davis tried to get it from him, but Bevan instead chose to drag it further in and force a ball up instead of letting Davis take it away and drive it forward.
Incredibly frustrating and just terrible football.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

BTW, I do think that the Swans team does excessively enforce ball-ups situations, but the dux, master, king and all time greatest is Benny Matthews....Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looks like a girlfriend,That I had in February of last year, It's not confidential, I've got potential

Incredibly frustrating and just terrible football. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I used to HATE mathews with a vengeance - I used to say all the same things that are here til I was blue in the face. Then he was out injured for one week, and we actually missed himI was shocked as hell, but it was pretty obvious that for all the crap he produces, he also produces some vital stuff that we all tend to miss because we're so intent on seeing the bad stuff. I'm not saying he doesn't do some awful things (because he most certainly does!), but maybe the times he is useful, we just don't remember.
