Thanks for the pisstake their SC, but we seriously did the best we could. We have sleeves now, so the poling is actually quite a simple process.

The main guy who co-ordinates the banner was not there out on the field due to having to work on Sunday. So a call to move the thing meant that it was suddenly up in the air. Considering how the wind was suddenly swirling one way then the next. And considering the picture we had for Micky's 200th, there was too much stress on the crepe just around the picture.

I was one of the people who made it on Friday. we did the shell as well as stuck down the back message. One thing we perhaps should have done but didn't do was tape up the back of the banner. But at that stage we didn't even know he was playing. Hence we had to come back early on the Sunday.

On Sunday we had to finish sticking the Micky picture down. But I had to help the two gals over from adelaide (who were new themselves at making banners) to get THEIR banner poled. In the spirit of working together that you get in Cheer Squads, I gave our guests' banner priority over ours.

Then Boofhead and I had to carry THEIR banner out of the cricket centre to their race. I was so stressed by that stage that i was stomping over the garden just to get the thing out of the centre and around to the MA Stand race. Then we had to lug ours around to our race. Then I had to go back and get all the flags and patties. Then I had to get the floggers out of the shed. Then I had to set the big flags up, but had to leave it because we had to go out with the thing. Man, i was in a state by that stage.

Had we not had the Adelaide banner to do, we may well have re-enforced the crepe at the back near where micky's picture was. I was near breaking point as it was. I did the very very best I could. alas, it wasn't enough.

We HAVE got newer crepe. We imported it from China because the old stuff is like tissue paper. But still it is a nightmare. It is way way thinner than the stuff we used last year, that I hear is no longer available anywhere. There is nothing we can do, other than tape the hell out of things like we did up in Brisbane.

Will let you all know how things go on Friday. If anyone is not at work/uni that day, we'd love to have them to come and help us get it done. PM me for more details.

I'm not sure if the reinforced holes part is a pisstake - I notice how the banners get battered by the wind and I've often wondered why there are not strategically-placed holes to reduce this.

Parachutes and wind socks have deliberate holes in them, so I kind of figure it's a good idea. Also, the players only run through the bottom half, so I don't see why the top half has to be made of feeble tissue paper.

How about Doyle or Cyggie the Swan? How would we look with a decapitated mascot? Even more like headless chooks

We actually have put wind pockets in em in the past. But with having to do two banners, I guess we overlooked things.

What you do is put several layers of tape in a square. Then just get the Stanley knife and cut an X in it. I'll put some special ones in just for you NMW when I make the next one on Friday.

Man, the next couple of weeks are going to be hell. Just rang the pres and we are both stressing about things something mad. It was supposed to be Stewie's 200th on Saturday. But I heard he has taken the voluntary one week suspension NRL-style. Thus meaning that his 200th game would be in Perth. So where do we have the cartoon and message sent to? Here? To Melbourne? To the Eagles CS in Perth (who had put the messages on for 3 players' 150th last season)? ARGH, they all must think we are lunatics. The sad thing is that we ARE for taking this one to ourselves WILLING each week!!!!!!!!

Melbourne are supposed to be making the Perth banner tonight. But of course have no idea what to put on the thing. As not only would Maxfield be playing but Leo Barry his 150th. Another cartoon, another decision as to where to send the stuff.

To make matters even more stressful, we have a Red Cross corporate banner to make as well.

I have to ask myself whether I seriously can handle this stress any more.

LOL, your comments made me chuckle SC. We used to have this giant sailcloth thing that the players would run through back in the "show em Sydney" days. It had a tiny little door thing with a message on it. It was pretty sad really. You could only put 5 words on it.

Just got word in that the issue of the crepe has gotten so bad that it has gone to the AFL. They are even putting a message in the Footy Record so that when the banners rip (as ours and Freo's did on Sunday) that we are not the ones who are made to look to idiots, yet again. The AFLCSL has told us that due to the crepe problems all banners HAVE to be weaved. Slight problem there guys; we have never done a weaved banner. And have no idea how to do it either. And have 2 people who are supposed to make the thing on Friday.

In other good news we do not have access to the cricket centre over the next couple of weekends.

I hope your day is better than ours. Man, this is just torture. All in the name of a tea who played like that on Sunday.

Geez, who knew it was so complex, gentle poling, sleeves, low quality crepe, and even an events coordinator !

And there was me thinking it was just a bit of crepe on two poles that the players ran through.

We're actually making it tomorrow - Wednesday 20th - we had planned to make it next Wednesday - 27th - but the club want it made earlier!

                      A sad decision

I have decided today that I just do want to waste my time and efforts to make banners any more. It is just not worth the stress and hassle I went through on Sunday.

I have a new job to look forward to, which will involve weekend work. I have other things to do with my free time. I want the footy to be fun again. And just wave my flag, do a bit of chanting, and go home and moan and groan when we lose.

If there is no banner on Saturday, well that is no longer my problem. It is just not worth doing it any more.

It is time for going to the footy to be fun again. And just be a normal barracker in the Cheer Squad.

Thanks for all your effort with the banner over the years Jules. I know you think it is largely unappreciated but many of have enjoyed your banner work week after week.

Good for you, JF, if that's what you want to do. Just out of interest, what would the club if there was no-one to make a banner?
