At 2pm Libby Gore (filling in for James Valentine) said she'd be talking to Paul Roos in the next hour. Didn't hear the topic. From Chopper Read to Roosy - is her career going up or down?

That was interesting and far from the platitudes others accused him of. He would also disagree with much that is said here. He said he played in the days when coaches would throw players against lockers after they played badly. He mentioned trying to keep players between himself and the coach - and avoiding eye contact - after a loss. Now he says it's all about accountability and the players ask him why they played poorly (it must be a busy week).
Also said the days of the tyrant coach (not his words) was because they were part times who had no time to think of tactics. And training was one on one and flat out. Now the training is much more scientific and coaches now work with the assistant coaches and the leadership group to get results. He also said that he doesn't think there's much a coach can do during a game to change the flow - except reinforce what they are doing right.
However, as Goodes told us all at the Cross on Sunday, Roos certainly pulled the players in after the game and went through their mistakes. In particular he pointed out that Goodes miss before 3/4 stopped any impetus into the 4th quarter. It doesn't sound like mistakes are overlooked or ignored.
Again, he looks set for a busy week. -

At the aftermatch, someone asked Nicks about why we didn't always go with long kicks to the forwards? He replied "gee you sound like Hally in the showers this afternoon!"Comment
