    In's & out's this week + other rantings!

So what are the early signs for the in's and out's this week and what would you like to see regarding match-ups etc?

For me, if Jolly is fit to play (and pray to the lord he is) and LRT passes his fitness test then this would be my changes:

Out: Maxfield (sus), Williams (inj), Ball (inj) Bevan (omit)

    In: McVeigh, Scheinder, LRT, Schuable

Bevan is a hard one, while I love his intensity at the ball and contest it is his skills at present which is letting him down. Considering that execution of skills are letting the team down as a whole at present we can't carry him in the side at this point in time.

McVeigh comes in for Williams and Scheinder is a must this week to play forward and allow Nick Davis to spend a significant amount of time in the midfield to help cover the loss of Willo and his pace and foot skills.

LRT comes back into the side to take on Miller at CHB. Miller gets most of his marks/possies working his opponent up and down the field. LRT has the athletic ability to go with him for the journey and is the most likely match-up.

Schuable (while still under done) is in the side as insurance in case Neitz has a day out on Leo or Craig Bolton. Schuable can also be thrown forward in order to create match-up problems for the Dees which he has been in the past.

As for match-ups, I think it times to give Ablett a free reign this week and see if he can get the thing 25 times with out his opponent leading him to the ball and become a more attaking weapon.

Crouch is our only realistic option for Davey to counter his pace, although he made need to have a breather during the game due to his overall fitness level.

And Roos please please let us see Goodes & Jeff White go head to head around the ground. Worth the price of admission alone

I said to my mate last week that I was more worried about the Crows game than the Dees. Can't see any reason why we can't take this one by a good margin.

So here's the team I would like this week:

    FB: J Crouch L Barry C Bolton
HB: B Matthews LRT S Dempster
    C: T Kennelly N Davis L Ablett
    HF: R O'Keefe B Hall A Goodes
    FF: M Nicks M O'Loughlin A Scheinder
    R: D Jolly J Bolton B Kirk

    Int: A Buchanen D Spriggs J McVeigh A Schuable

Whilst I agree about your opinion on Bevan, he may well stay in the side to help cover Davey, which he has done before.

Otherwise we may use Dempster on him? He seems pretty quick (ran down Corrie pretty easily) but Davey is in a class of his own regardless.

I'd hate to see Dempster on Davey - wouldn't want to see another potential attacking player trained as a defender.

But isnt Dempster already a defender? Not that I think he should play on Davey though.

Err...if Dempster is going to play in the backline (which seems to be the immediate plan) surely he's got to do a bit of defending? Isn't that most of the point of being down there?

I do agree that the idea of Dempster on Davey sucks though.

Yeah, at the moment he seems to be on the half back line, a la Kennelly, however I was thinking more of giving him a tight defensive assigment, like Davey, which would distract him from the offensive side of his game.

I think the key defensive assignments should go to players who have less to offer on attack.

Alright then who?? Crouch is going to have to pull one out of his clacker to get it done (although he is capable), and Bevan may well be dropped. Who else has the speed but is less attacking than Dempster?

Willoughby on Davey (if Willoughby comes in of course). Spriggs?

From today's SMH. Significantly, it states that Schauble is not match fot enough to play

Has Roos harping on a bit about fans coming to watch the future of the Swans with McVeigh and Schneider playing, as if we havent seen them play in the A's before.

I'd keep Bevan just to maintain some balance with a few players moving in and out of the team.

Crouch can than Maxfield for saving his place this week. He would have been first dropped if we didnt have so many forced on us, IMO.

                        .
I think one of Dempsters more important roles on Saturday will be getting in front of Neitz when he is on the lead or third man up when it is bombed long to Neitz.
He did pretty well against Adelaide by leaving his man and getting involved in marking contest by spoiling.
He is growing on me every time I see him.
He looks a better prospect to play on a third tall than Kennelly imo.

The Kennelly - Davis - Ablett centre line gives us the most attacking potential (without Williams) we have had in a long time!

Against the team named in the first post I would line up a Demons team thus:

                            B: Bell, Rivers, Brown
                            HB: Bizzell, Ferguson, Wheatley
                            C: Green, McLean, Johnstone
                            HF: Robertson, Miller, Sylvia
                            F: Davey, Neitz, Yze
                            R: White, McDonald, Rigoni

                            I: Holland, Read, Armstrong, Godfrey

In defence, Bell and Brown to pick up Nicks and Scheinder and Rivers on O'Loughlin. Wheatley/O'Keefe, Bizzell/Goodes and Ferguson on Hall. Rivers/O'Loughlin would be a good match as I think Rivers has the smarts to play well on him. Have a look at him and you will see he has a bit of power in his legs and rump and is hard to move. Ferguson on Hall would also be of interest. Ferguson has the speed to go with Hall but would be giving away a lot of Kgs. If this does happen would expect hall to move deep into the square and try to get one out with Ferguson. If Ferguson is having problems I would expect a swap between Ferguson and Miller.

In your midfield, Bolton and Kirk have been the best ball winners for you and I would expect them to be tagged. Maybe McDonal and Rigoni, Maybe Read instead of Rigoni .... not sure. Davis has also won a bit of the ball in the last couple of weeks and I expect McLean to run with him.

Whoever wins the ball in the midfield will win the game. If we can get our share out of the middle than I expect your backs to have their hands full.

                            Matchups?
                            Neitz/Barry?
                            Yze/Bolton?
                            Davey/Crouch?
                            Robertson/Matthews?
                            Miller/LRT?
                            Dempster/Sylvia?

Looks like a few mis-matches there. Maybe someone could give a better opinion.

In our midfield I see green and Johnstone as your main worries.... Matchups?

I had Goodes on the Half Forward line to then move into the middle and go against Jeff White around the ground after the centre bounce.

Jolly would then go deep forward or back depending on where he is required re match-ups.
