supporter get together in perth next week

Hi gang, Just got a call from a guy in the WA Supporters Club. we are starting to organise things for next weekend against the Eagles. From what I hear there will be a get-together once again at the Irish Club before and after the match, which I believe will be costing $5 to non- WASSC members (and will include a ticket in the raffle.) They wanted to see the players after the game but it appears they are flying home on the Redeye. I can understand they'd be a bit upset at that, only seeing them once a year, but unfortunately that is the way things are at present.

Nevertheless, I was keen to organise a casual get-together for a feed and a yarn on the Thursday night (APR29 I think). Have been chatting to Port1978 about this (yes you can bring some of your turquoise ferals along too if they are interested in rocking up and talking footy!).Somewhere cheap, central and pleasant enough. Anyone have any ideas of where to go? And what time is best (as I may well be heading to Rottnest for the day that day)?

Lettuce know if anyone from here is keen. And we'll use this medium to organise things ourselves.

    JF

PS:- PM me for my contact details.

a bit disappointing that we wont be able to see the players especially if they win the bloody game. Do u know what time the irish club will start before the game?

As for a get together on thursday night, that'd be great. it all depends on where is everyone is central to etc...... I suppose somewhere in the city/northbridge would be easy. or we could just go to a pub and have a liquid dinner and some wedges for a snack

My flight doesn't land till mid afternoon so will probably go straight to the ground from the hotel but the Irish Club after the game sounds good.

I was hoping the team would be returning on the midday flight (with me )

The guy i talked to was mega upset about the players not coming back for even 15 minutes. The game would finish at 8pm Wa time. The Redeye flight leaves at around midnight. I don't see why they can't stay at the after-match and see their 300 WA-based members. I do smell a rat here. And so do the guys in Perth. The guy I chatted to even mused "well what the hell am I doing all this for?"

One senior player WAS overheard at the after-match last year that he did not want to come down from dinner to be with the supporters "under any circumstances". I wonder if the players have said they no longer want to go to the function any more. Abd are using the "early flight' thing as an excuse.

All rather sad I think. Still I'm happy they aren't on my flight home to be honest. Several of the SA-based boys were getting their bags after a flight from Adelaide after a Crows match. We had lost by 8 goals and played pathetically and I was in NO mood to let them forget it either, considering the efforts I had made to organise some support for them. I let the big bundle of flags I had crash onto the floor; the players took one glance at the expression on my face and cleared out of there in no uncertain time. Not just out of the terminal but the whole airport!

I wished there were more supporters who would give some our own players some (subtle) curry after a poor effort. The sad thing is, that at this club we just roll our eyes and accept that that is the way things are. I refuse to any longer!

Luckily by the looks of several of us at the after-match on Sunday, I am not alone these days.

To be honest the players not attending after funcations and looking disinterested when they did, was the reason I stopped attending the Irish Club/Subiaco funcations I figured I would go with my mates to the footy instead. It does get dishearting that the players feel that little of the very people that partly pay there contracts that they could'nt even spare them 15-20mins.

One of the guys from over there I know suggested the Hyde Park Hotel in North Perth as a place to get together.

From memory Port Adelaide have their pre-match functions there when they are in the West. (so I'll sterilize the seats and will check for teal chewing gum as well .)

Will be more than likely doing a (free educational) tour to Rottnest that day, so I may not be in town until 7 or so.

Anyone up for a get-together? Or it will be Port1978, Swans63 and me on our own.

Seeing as there is an Official Aftermatch at the Irish Club (we almost put Irish Pub on the banner) it surprises me that players would not attend.

All we can hope for is that this thread jolts a few people in high places into changing the players travel arrangements.

You might thing "Why are people making such a fuss about things?''. I can only say that if you get to see YOUR team only once a year, you at least want to know you have some sort of access to them.

Believe you/me, we have over 300 club members in WA which is as astonishing as it is impressive. They are MEGA hard-core. It is great supporting our club with such passionate committed people as these guys. Several people in Sydney could learn how it is done from our Swans supporters based in Perth.

Here is proof of what I mean.

I hear Silent Lurker will be in town on Thursday as well. Care to join us on Thursday night mate?

I will be contacting the WA supporters Club, as I have a rather dubious looking array of flags off their sticks as well as patties sitting in the hallways outside my bedroom. i hope they get used, as unfortunately with the numbers we had in Brisbane they simply weren't. (Hard to believe we have 5 times as many supporters with us in the Cheer Squad in Perth as in Brisbane!)

i won't have wheels, so if anyone can pick the things up and take em to the Irish club and then the game, it would be mega mega appreciated.

PM if you CAN help re picking up the stuff at either the airport or from where I am staying in Cannington (where that is in relation to everything, I'm not 100% sure.)

That's correct, as do most WA AFL supporter groups....but I'm sure you won't find any teal chewing gum anywhere!

                        Bad news

I have just been advised that my two tours have been swapped around. So I will be going to Margaret River tomorrow and Rotto on Friday. I am aware that this may not be ideal to Port 1978 who has to work on Friday night. My tour doesn't get back to Perth until 930pm, so that would be too late for everyone to catch up for a bite.

Is anyone up to meet up on Friday night? Or maybe for brunch/lunch before the game on Saturday?

Sorry to do this to people at late notice. My tours only got confirmed today.

That's a bugger Julian...I'm not necessarily gonna be at work on Friday night...I just could be called in at any time, so if there's gonna be other people meeting up I'll come along & just leave if I get called in. The Hyde Park Hotel's not too far from work.....Saturday before the game's completely out for me.....very busy beforehand....
