    Where to for Doyle?

    Gday RWO,

Just wondering on your thoughts of Steven Doyle.

I see that his ankle injury has been labelled "Indefinate", meaning x number of weeks until he returns. I know he has had a bad run with injuries but surely now his time with the Swans must be starting to wear thin.

It is a shame because I think he has great potential but just can't get consistency in playing.

There was a game back at the SCG a few years ago, where Doyle went forward, took 3 or 4 big marks in one quarter, kicked some goals and then went off with his knee injury in a collision (may have been against the Tigers?). Thought that game may have been the making and finishing of him in one vicious quarter. He just has not been the same since.

Where to from here for Doyle?

Until guys like Ericksen and Shaw suggest that they are able to make a fist of it in the seniors on a regular basis, I can't see Doyle going anywhere simply because Ball is at the end of his career and to only have Jolly would be near suicidal.

Having said that, I'd love to know what Doyle's record is for consecutive games - we'd be lucky if it was in double figures. We can't sit around hoping he'll shake this off forever, we need him on the field - eventually a call will have to be made, but it won't be this year or next IMHO because of our other ruck options.

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Are his injuries just bad luck or does he have weak ligaments or bone structural problems?
Jimmy Stynes played ruck and played the most consecutive games of all time so it can't be blamed on the position he plays.
I would really like to know what the problem just so I don't get frustrated with him.

Think he's talented, so I'd hang on to him for a little while longer but he has to start producing. He's in the same boat as Fixter.

I feel sorry for the guy. He has shown some patches of potential and then gets laid out again just when he starts to gain some form and confidence.

His recovery time from injuries must worry both him and the team. What's frustrating is the lack of medical opinion to justify the injury recovery period. In Doyle's case, 'ankle roll' seems almost terminal.

With Ball set to go, I believe the Swans will persist anyway, unless there is rapid development in players like Shaw, Campbell and Ericksen.

BTW, the two cameos of note that I can remember Doyle playing was the Port game, about three years back at the SCG, before he got cleaned up by Bourgoyne, and the Richmond game from a few years back where he towelled up Ray Hall for a quarter.

I like the bloke and hope his fortune changes very soon.

Stephen Doyle? Don't even go there. Where to? No where! He has played so much and he doesn't show initiative. I mean, yeah, totally feel sorry for him but if he won't play well then he is not for the team. He doesn't really jump out at me. I mean, anyone can run round a field with a ball and kick it on but, he just doesn't have that special oomph I wish he'd had. He is a really tall boy and he doesn't really use that feature he has. When he's going for goal I just pray it's not embarrassing.

That is so true !!!!!. I want to see him do really well but he's had heaps of opportunities and i'm losing patience rapidly. They really rate him up in the box, I just wish he could be on the park every week and get some consistency

Shows glimpses of the talent he has when fit, only problem is keeping him fit for any length of time.
I wouldn't be upset if he is de-listed the end of this year purely on the time he spends off field as opposed to on field

Whoa, hang on, I know he hasnt played much, but he aint the only guy with injury problems in this team.

Take Fixter and James. At least Doyle gets into the seniors every so often. Far more than these two other guys do. Those two are far more expendable than Doyle.

I think BonBon is posting under 2 seperate names, noone else would agree with that gibberish... surely!
                        - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

Doyle is very frustrating yes, but he is still only 23 (which is still young in ruckman terms) and does have some talent. I'd still persist with him, but we need to recruit one more young ruckman at the end of the year (or promote Shaw).

I'd rather see James and Fixter go before Doyle.

At the after match last week I asked if his 2-3 weeks could be a Jason Ball 2-3 months (last year) and he replied "I hope to be back in 2-3 weeks but it could be 2 months, too."

But as other have said. What, have Ball retire and get rid of Doyle so all our hopes are fastened on ankle-rolled Jolly? I don't think so.
