    Luffy to the rescue!!

Young Swans try too hard: Luff

Luff's advice would be simple: get back to the basics. "What you need to do is do the basics," he said. "All they need to do is really the simple things."

He said the younger and the fringe players needed to worry less about doing something spectacular with each possession.

I guess for someone like Luff, that's easy, as that's all he was reallly capable of!

Yeah, let's have an uninformed dig at Luffy. That's always fun.

WTF did your dig have to do with Luff's coaching record?

I'm sorry, they where related in my head but i didn't really make that clear.

I don't see how what he has said is astounding and hasn't been said a hundred times, of course that's the problem, and every fan, supporter, expert, coach, ex-coach and their dogs have said the same thing.

You have claimed that Luffy was only capable of doing the simple things and all you can do to defend your ridiculous statement is to change the subject. Next thing we know you'll be claiming you're in a wheelchair.

                Re: Luffy to the rescue!!

I reckon Luffy is making a really valid point. Everyone has been knocking our current gameplan (admittedly, myself included) and there's no doubt that it does have it's flaws. But Luff is right when he says that it's worked for us in the past. He also says there's no point reforming a game plan which we've been using for years and which the players are used to. I agree with this to an extent, certainly from the perspective of short-term success, it makes sense.

I agree that all our players are lacking is a little bit of confidence, and that at times all the players (not just the youngsters) have had a tendancy to try too hard and do something spectacular with every posession when just simple, percentage play would do the trick (Bevan and Schneider take note!)

And what's wrong with doing things simply? I think you're right to say that Luff often did things simply, but he was damn good at it. I think the simple approach is the best one to take - for crying out loud, footy is not rocket science or multi-variabled third order differntial equations. Why should we make it harder than it needs to be? Get back to basics and I think we'll be better off.

I agree with most of that but Rodney Eade pulled out his hair watching Luffy doing the "basics".The thing I liked about Luff was he was a bit scatter brained but could pull out something fantastic to make up for his blunders.

Yeah, he wasn't the best shot at goal, or the best kick, either. I broke many a remote watching him =)

Yep, the game is called Australian Football....so kick the damn piece of leather!!! That's about as basic as it gets.

                        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
