An we won't this year as they are about to change the rules.

You will have to finish on the bottom for a few years b4 getting a priority pick.

yeah, FH is a real psychic - he can tell you something so completely vague and useless that as soon as something remotely similar happens, he can claim he predicted it.

Interesting to note that the much-talked-about St Kilda model (a few terrible years to reap 4-8 prime draft picks) is not the only way to go. Melbourne's yo-yo strategy sees them have one crap year (netting at least one prime pick) followed by another good year with a tilt at the flag. Pretty much the same core list since the 2000 GF, topped up after woeful seasons in 1999, 2001, 2003. They look good this year, don't they?

For what it's worth, I am keeping the faith. We USED to be a team with frustratingly poor skills but that seemed to change these last 2 years. With attention to the metal side of things, I bet those skills will return soon and the Swans climb back up the ladder.

It looks like Melbourne have decided to ditch that strategy otherwise they'd be absolute shight this year.

My, my, we're a positive bunch aren't we?! Let's not lose perspective amongst all our misery and despair - the poor nature of our current form is being vastly over-exaggerated. The season is only five rounds old, we still have a mathematical chance of making the 8 and Port and Brisbane, last year's grand finallists, are in worse form than we are. We can still turn it around, hope is not lost.

Well i'm staying positive still, i'm just telling myself tht i'd rather have them peak at the end of the season than at the start or the middle like they have in the past, surely they'll have a peak.

I agree with much of what you say but not about Willo, he has been essential to the midfield this year and it is obvious when he is not on the field - we slow right down. AND he has has been head and shoulders above Maxfield.

I'm pretty confident we'll make the 8... and then lose the first final. It's going to be like 1999... (but without the party...)

IMO that's all very well and good in hindsight, but I know I'd be as mad as hell if I knew the club wasn't trying its guts out to win each and every game they play.

If we lose games simply because we aren't good enough, that's fine. If we lose games deliberately because we want the chance to have an earlier pick from a random selection of unproven youngsters..... Well, that's something else completely.

Early and priority picks should be a CONSOLATION, not a REWARD.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

So we can pick up a Grant, Gaspar, Rocca or Buckley??

How about we start working on winning some games instead?

Unfortunately, babysitting arrangements preclude any pre- or post- match drinking activities. I hear that is also the reason the team must fly back on the red-eye.
