Goodes may have to put his hand up

Goodes may have to put his hand up
Roos also indicated backman Tadhg Kennelly might be moved to bolster a midfield missing Paul Williams (collarbone), Ben Mathews (foot), Nic Fosdike (knee) and Jason Ball (hamstring).

"I think ultimately we see [Kennelly] as a forward or a mid-fielder," Roos said. "I really do think certainly over the course of a season particularly with where we are at the moment with all our injuries ? he's certainly one we can throw into that role."
Goodes in the ruck(??) Kennelly on a wing/midfield, Throw in a Moore and/or Malceski and/or Powell and the team is starting to look very different.

    Goodes ponders return for Swans
Young tall Lewis Roberts-Thomson is the other likely candidate for the job on Saturday, but both options would leave the Swans' backline further exposed.
Ben Mathews, who can play half-back flank, is out with a foot injury, veteran defenders Andrew Schauble and Jason Saddington are underdone and youngster Mark Powell was injured at the weekend.
The players met yesterday and Roos indicated that the group blamed Barry Hall, Michael O'Loughlin and the other forwards for recent low scores and poor results.
The statistics show Sydney took the ball inside 50m more than Melbourne and took more marks in front of goal, but failed to convert.

"The players met yesterday and Roos indicated that the group blamed Barry Hall, Michael O'Loughlin and the other forwards for recent low scores and poor results."

What they then forgot to say was that the forwards got up and blamed the crock of poo delivery coming from a haphazard, underskilled midfield that ran around the boundary and took half a quarter before either a) bombing it 30 metres long and 70 metres up, and/or b) kicking it to a one-on-three, and/or c) kicking to a man in a poor position, and/or d) kicking it to an unopposed opposition players chest.

I hope they don't entirely blame the forward line for Saturday's score after sitting through a rerun of the game.

In fact, attributing blame to any small group of players is daft and unlikely to turn things around.

What I would like to know is how long Mathews has been struggling - Roos said "Benny won't play as he has been struggling a little bit with his foot, so you have to look not only at the short term but the medium to long term health of the players." If he has been struggling for a while, why keep playing him???? We have greater depth to cover players and we've all seen before what happens when you don't play fully fit players!!!!

I said it after the game against North, again after the game against Adelaide and I was highly critical of our forward line on Saturday night. I believe they are currently the weakest link in the team. Their accuracy is woeful, they provide few leads and when they do, its way out at an angle and they rarely win contests. They are playing terrible, pathetic football. On paper they should be one of the best forward lines in the AFL but currently I do not hesitate to label them the worse. What's wrong with Barry Hall at the moment?

Now see I read "they" as THE WHOLE TEAM.

If there was blame handed out by the players, you can bet your house it was self-blame from the forwards.

Who in the right mind would seriously stand up and point an accusation at Bazza?

Form slump. For a man with very high standards, especially when this club has just placed so much faith in him over his new contract, he will be filthy with himself. And he cant direct that anger at the opposition for fear of getting suspended (for half a season with his record) and make things even worse.

We can only hope he gets through it soon, without doing anything rash, and is better for it.

After also just gritting the teeth and watching the replay, it confuses me even more that we got so badly beaten. It looked much much worse at the ground in terms of skill errors and PEOPLE LEADING AWAY FROM THE BALL. I guess these are the things that don't show up on tv.

Yeah, true, but it's hard to turn it around when you are constantly battling against two defenders and the delivery is poor. Maybe a spell as first ruck (given our shortage atm) may be an idea. At least he'd be one-on-one. Take away some pressure from being the go-to man and see some perspective from the mf.

                        I dunno. Just creating options!

The trouble with our forward line is that they can be spotted all over the ground at any given moment. Spreading the forwards thinly across the paddock like vegemite has caused the problem so I don't think the answer is to put Hall in the ruck.

I noticed a little drill the team was doing in the warm up and it stands out now due to the complete lack of it being carried out during the game.

Two forwards team up against two defenders with bibs on, they do a dance for a 5 or so secs. in the goal square before leading to space and being delivered from a pack of players just inside the centre square.

Looked great just never happened during the game.
