    Capper

I just wished this guy played for another team and not the swans. One of the few burdens (along with swans not winning a flag for a long time) following the swans is having every man and his dog gives you a hard time about capper.

    Me:"I follow the swans"

Punter: "hahaha capper aye and those shorts"

And now this beat up by fat-ed and the footy show about his pill popping during some finals.

    I am over it.

Several points about your post....firstly he DID play for another team and he'll be remembered in footy circles as the man who got Robert Walls sacked as coach, when he kicked that goal at PP to allow the Bears to beat the Blues.

Re the drug thing - the sad part about this is that I think he is sober NOW. He's like the way he is without the additional chemicals.

          I suspected as much!

For a couple of Hafey years, he was great. That all stopped when he went north though, and his success was pretty limited given that by all accounts players got bonuses for kicking goals.

I love Wazza. It's a shame he ever left. A great mark, an exciting footballer and a fair-dinkum lair. He was everything that is good about Aker without being an assh0le.

                  Capper

Capper was worth an extra 10,000 people a week to the SCG.

He was sensational, and the roar that used to go up when the ball was kicked in his direction was magic. Not even plugger had that same roar.

So he has come out and said he took some drugs, so what. It was common knowledge back then in football circles that that sort of stuff was going on.

Is it any different to players taking No Doze or Caffeine tablets now??

You got to remember that the Swans fell to pieces after he left(there was also plenty of other reasons).

Give me Capper circa 86-87 any day

Regardless of what a tool he is, he was also a bloody good full forward and as shearer says, did much to attract people to the game, lift the crowd and really add some excitement to the game back in his prime. Despite all the criticism of the Eddleston era, it was also a lot of fun. Pity we couldnt win any finals games back then.

I had lunch with a guy who knows Capper, and he confirmed what we already knew.

It was a shame about the Team of the Century for Warwick as he was never going to beat people like Bob Pratt and Plugger and Kelly on the forward line but he was unique. At the actual function it was Wazza that I wanted to have my photo taken with not the others, in fact I think I even said to Ron Barassi " move over please as I've seen you before ". Cringe, cringe.

When you think that Matthew Lloyd can't always kick a 100 goals a season, plus Tredrea etc. etc Wazza must have been O.K. to have been able to kick 100. I know you'll say Williams shoved it down his throat but there was still something enigmatic about him.

I've taught 1000"s of kids like Warwick ( yes I'm old) but he must have something special to rise above the masses of bogans he resembles.

It's safe to say that the "Punter" would not be an Essendon fan. The riposte to Essendon fans is mentioning how Capper played an important role on the day the Swans kicked 13.7 in a quarter against the Dons.

Duh!!!! Punter is Ricky Ponting, the boy from Mowbray who went to Brooks High (not Launceston Grammar) and his female extended family played vigaro. They probably played for All-Whites not Patons. For heavens sake you lot get your nicknames straight.
