Have just come home from the game. You are being a little harsh. The conditions were not good. The WCE skill level (especially of the likes of Judd, Cousins and Sampi) is superior. In the wet the also-rans get dragged down but the really skilful players are not affected.
Where would the Eagles be without Judd?
He set up most of their damaging goals especially in that second quarter. The Sydney Swans kept the WCE supporters quiet in the first quarter. In the second after a horrendous non-decision by the umpire when Matera squarely pushed Nicks in the back (we were in line with it) to mark and goal that set WC on a momentum which we were never going to recover from.

          True.

Still considerably better than us. At one stage there were 3 WC players off injured (one of which was Judd). They still proved to be too strong. I don't know if you saw last weeks WC game, but they had 13 goal kickers. That's a sign of a strong team with plenty of depth.

And this is supposed to give us consolation? It takes more than keeping opposition supporters quiet for 5 minutes to win a game of football in this day and age. We need to string 4 quarters of good footy together, and sadly we haven't been able to do too much of it recently.

I am sorry mate. We did NOT try hard at times. Especially in the last 2 quarters where at times the game resembled a scratch match.

Barry Hall's last quarter saw some of the most insipid lax half-hearted efforts I have ever had the misfortune to witness first hand. It was not JUST the 2 50m penalties he gave away, but the minute or so preceding it when he was decided half-hearted about chasing the pill.

He is giving the impression of a player who has just landed a $500k/season deal who is having trouble motivating himself. I guess if you just landed a $500k contract, you'd feel somewhat reticent to bust your gut each day at work when you know the money is already in the bank.

The fact that Roos did NOT drag him after the 2 50m penalties was probably the biggest disgrace of all. Like what sort of impression does it give to Hall's teammates to see some flagrent unprofessional conduct go unpunished.

Or maybe a player who knows he and his team mates are struggling and is frustrated as hell by their inability to deliver what he knows he - and they - can.

He does do some daft things at times but his work rate was pretty good for most of the game.

What is the point in getting bitter at a player who has signed a contract that reflects his market worth - probably slightly under it, if truth be known.

His occasionally errant behaviour is a symptom of the problems, not the problem itself.

I agree 100 % BBBBH is the Swans best player. He is surrounded by fools on the field and fools in the coaches box. If I were him I would be feeling a bit under paid right now.

Sorry Liz, but were we watching the same game last night??? JF is right in saying that he should've been dragged - that's the one area Roosy has been considerably lacking in. Player mucks up, pull him off and tell him.

You better be joking! This year Hall hasnt been able to kick straight, catch or take any marks and has just been 'acting' trying to get free kicks instead of worrying about marking the ball.
He's been just as @@@@house this year as the rest of them.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

I'm just concerned about the example not dragging him sets to not only the other players on the team but young impressionable kids watching around the nation.

Is Roos too soft on them? Because he played with many of them, is he too close to them? Is he doing the exact opposite to what Eade was doing; not giving them a rocket. And publicly.

He is giving the impression of a guy who has run out of ideas as to lift the team. And is only able to emit tired cliches about the team and how to improve it.

I certainly hope you all keep this thread and make me regret my concerns about his coaching when our season finally gets going. I went out on a limb a couple of seasons ago in support of the guy. So suddenly calling for his sacking would render me the biggest hypercrite in the SCG.

Sadly, I just fear that it may things may not improve this season. And will an ever-aging list does not augur well for the next few years.

Yes, he should have been dragged - but that it was all a bit pointless by then. I doubt Hall needed to be told what he did wrong and I doubt his team mates needed to be either.

Maybe Roos had broken the phone by then.

Good points I posted a while agao I was annoyed Roos didnt drag Davis against Hawthorn for clowning around and stuffing up a goal in the last QTR. I only say this because Roos has to set the standards for the team and any lack of discipline should be jumped on. The younger players will be taking note thinking I cant make a mistake but if Im a senior player I can almost do whatever I like. Im sure Roos lets all the players know after the game but its not the same as being told there and then.

Roos needs to set the benchmarks and the standard of discipline required and enforce same others he willbegin to lose the respect of the players, they may all love him because he's a nice bloke, who was the last nice coach to win a premiership?? Mathews Pagan Sheedy Blight Williams definately dont fall into this category and all have strict discipline standards which are enforced.

                              Cheers

Im not in any way advocating removing Roos at this stage but I do think its time to replace some of the assist coaches, Lyon is a good mate of Roos how much did this influence the decision to employ him? It would be good to have a couple of Senior Asst managers from outside the club to bring in some fresh ideas i.e Mark Harvey, Gary O' Donnell etc.
