    Swans Brand of Football

I have been a SWANS member for just 5 years now. I live in Sydney and I don't have a footy background at all. In fact I have an excellent ignorance of the nuances of the game and I would not know a tactic from a bag of wet cement. However, I do love to watch this great game, especially at the gound with the family. It is a great day out.

So for the past four years I only watched SWANS games on TV or live until we got FOXTEL primarily to see Chelsea play. Then my wife and I discovered The Footy Channel where all the AFL games were shown.

We started to to watch non-Swans matches and noticed that they were generally inexplicably more energetic, exciting, dynamic and edge of you seat entertainment. This was a revelation to us. as we have been brought up on a Swans diet so never had anything else to compare it to. It suddenly occured that if a dimwit like me can see how boring the Swans play sometimes, maybe it's true and they need to change the gameplan.. I think that's what they call it..

Super post QO. I am actually enjoying watching other teams play more than the Swans this year. All those goals...

            Excelent post.

The AFL and all the other clubs should get together and tell Richard Colless, that for the long term good of the game they are forcing him to sack Paul Roos !!

              Good post.

Fremantle used to be the laughing stock of the AFL but I reckon they have shed that label by absolutely tearing up Melbourne in that brilliant game on Saturday.

More goals were kicked in that match than Sydney has probably kicked all year.

We are the new laughing stock. We are in a terrible state and unfortunately the coaching staff seems incapable of taking the brave decisions to take us forward.

Roos is too loyal to players who performed in 2003 but haven't done so since and is hung up on a gameplan which is boring and not going to win football matches on a regular basis.

Oh for some talent to be unearthed if only given the chance...

We are the laughing stock of the AFL.

We are one of the worst performing sides in finals in the post-war period.

We have the longest gap since a flag.

We have the most embarrassing game plan.

We are the most boring side to watch.

                It's all very disappointing.

Watched the Cats and Dogs game today a bit on telly although it was a big margin in the end it was fast and entertaining. Plenty of energy.

Er, it proved to me that we have as serious lack of pace.

The thing I notice, is was not as congested in the centre square in some of the games coz the ruckmen tapped it into space, rather than at their feet.

I'm loving seeing other teams running through the corridor in space using maybe 2-3 slick handballs to run the ball through the centre compared to sydneys 6-7 messy "poor excuse for a" handballs hitting the deck every time, then going for an 8th handball directly to the oppositions best kick to run into an open goal.

Nice post mate, I have foxtel and last night I watch some great footy Brisbane v Essdn it was power footy at its best fast movement contested marks - yes contested marks, in between goals and QTRS I flicked to the swans and I have been a supporter and hardly missed a home game since 86 but I cant watch now its not enough that I support them, and at this stage it means watching (not supporting!) someone else play.

                          cheers

My son who has been a Swans supporter for all of his 21 years simply walked out of the lounge last night and said, I have had enough of this crap.

When I told him the result his reply was "is that all".

He'll be watching next week, but how many won't be back next week.

I have a friend who is 35 Y.O and followed and been a member of Hawthorn for as long as he can remember. he has not bought his seasons ticket yet out of absolute disgust at their insipid non performance in 2004. Not convinced they are much better this year.

How many Swans supporters are dropping off right now because of the game plan/style that we are serving up. It will be a darn side harder to get back Swans supporters than Hawk supporters, and of that I am sure.

I have been a passionate supporter for over 50 years and I was so crapped off with the quality of our performance in the Eagles game that I too watched a lot of the Lions match and enjoyed every second of it.

I have reached a stage that I think it may better to reach rock bottom and then have a good cleanout of the coaching and playing staff with the added advantage of picking up the quality picks in the draft. The AFL and the Swans administration seem to think that we would lose a lot of support if we ended up near last on the Premiership Table. While we may lose some support I believe that in the long term we would gain many more supporters if we had a total makeover and climb the ladder to the top, rather that finish around middle and miss the top draft picks again.

Because of the draft system we have clubs such as St Kilda, Melbourne and Geelong currently near the top of the ladder and clubs like the Swans and Essendon who have been thereabouts for some time near the bottom of the ladder. Unfortunately, we may have to get worse before we get better.
