    Reserves Win

Swans 15.21.111 d Queanbeyan Tigers 14.11.95. Game was still in the balance at 3/4 time (thanks to some inaccurate kicking from the young Swans) but the Swans wrapped it up early in the final term. The Tigers finished strongly (4 of the last 5 or so?) but the margin was too great. Thought Moore and Willoughby played well, as did Schmidt, Vogels and Erickson. Saddo looked OK but did not dominate as I thought he might have. A top up player with muttonchops a 70s porn start would have been proud of had a cracker final qtr, kicking two goals (one a set shot from 50, one a quick kick from the right pocket) and putting a lovely handpass (under pressure) in the path of a full speed Schmidt who finished truly.

I must say, as a family day out, the reserves is great. The kids just play with other kidsmost of the time. You have a kick at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full times. The reserves just play and you see some spectacular things (one Queenbeyan kid took a couple of hangers) and some really dumb but funny things. The beer is cold, the sausage sanwiches hot, and it takes 15 seconds to get out of the carpark.

Next week the 2's play Wagga Tigers at Telstra: 4:50 pm
Week after they play Belconnen Magpies (won last 3 flags I think, could even be 4) on the Sunday at SCG: 9:50 am

Was Vogels playing off the HF or FF line?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Mainly at CHF. Shaw or Clarke (I get them confused) spent a fiar bit of time at FF.

Good. I like the cut of Vogels jib. I'd love it if he could come into the seniors now.

There's a 20cm height difference between them. Maybe you're thinking of Grundy? What number was he wearing?

I mean get them mixed up in the sense that I don't know who is who. It was the tall one. I can't remember which number it was and didn't have my little card with me to check at the time. I also thought Sunny did some good things (I think it was him?), and Garubba. I assume Maclecski went to Perth - I didn't see him (I don't think).

I didn't say before but there seemed to be no injuries from the game (we did get there 10min after the start and they did only have 3 on the bench?), except Willoughby who got a cut head but it didn't look too bad.

The tall one would be Shaw, whereas the stocky short one would be Clarke. Disappointing to hear that Malceski didn't play.

That was obviously a much better test for the team. If Moore ,Willoughby and Schmidt played well surely it is time to promote these 3 for the previously and heavily mentioned 3 (other threads).

Also Erickson is an interesting mention. Is this 10 year project player finally showing something.

As I've said before, I am no great judge of a footballer. Erickson had a big height advantage which helped but I thought he got around the ground well and took a few good pack marks.

What impressed me about Willoughby, Schmidt and Moore was the undestanding they seem to have through the middle. While I understand that there is much less 'heat' around the contests at this level, the midfield really seem to work well with someone always finding some space and the others making sure he gets it. I was also impressed with how often the ball went back into the middle after it found its way out to the wing. It seemed always to be the first and preferred option, to get it back in to the corridor.

He may be dominant on his height alone. I'm not sure how many 205 cm ruckmen there are in the ACTAFL.

Great to see the reserves looking up to their role models in the senior side, kicking 17. 21 Goal kicking accuracy must be infectious!
