Stewie - Lead - Follow - or Get out of the way

Stewie is our captain (a fine choice, I must agree)

He either has to lead, follow or get out of the way.

He is trying vary hard but like the Swans is running on the spot - wheel spinning! Get into gear and get on with the job!

Take a good look at your self and decide which is the best course of action.

Hope that you lead well or get out of the way quickly, because I doubt that you would follow another.

Yes lead by example and kick the goal from dead in front when clear, instead of kicking it to grandma in the 20th row back on the half forward flank.

      tough question.....

i reckon he'll keep going for this season, but thats it
if we really go downhill (ie: no finals) i wouldnt be surprised if he packed it up midyear altogether

also if he keeps getting injured
      Roosy = LEGEND

Not that I know the Man, but I don't see him playing in the ressies. He's really past it, Roos' needs to make the call.

When the team needs a leader, like now, I can hardly see Maxi stepping out of the way. That would be the worst time to leave, and would send the most defeatist message to the team you can imagine. They may well recover, but just as may dive even lower.

He's carrying an injury. Unless it is a chronic injury due to his "old age", he will improve during the season.

hes playing so bad he can only get better...
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I think he still has a role to play and he doesn't strike me as someone who would take the easy way out by quitting so soon.

The immediate challenge is for Roos and he to find the right role at the moment because he's certainly ineffective at the moment.

To me it looks as if he is struggling for pace at the moment (whether due to age or injury) , and that is one of the weapons he has relied upon in the past. I reckon he's almost trying too hard to overcome that which is contributing to his terrible disposals.

So in the short term, find him a role where he doesn't need to rely on pace and put the onus on others to run hard - Crouch, Kennelly, Dempster, Ablett are all capable of it.

Where is that? Maybe it's a Dyson-type centre man role - Maxfield is still one of the strongest bodies in the midfield and isn't scared to us that. And if he is stationed predominantly in the centre of the ground rather than running along the wings the forwards might be able to make better use of his high, long, penetrating kicks even if they continue to be a little directionally challenged.

Alternatively use him behind the centre square in a sweeper / spare man role, a distributor in the ilk of Wirrpunda or Johnson. Yes, one of the things that makes those two so effective is their excellent use of the ball, but maybe if he wasn't trying to cover so much ground Maxfield's disposal might improve.

Whether either of these roles would help him to play himself into some form, who knows, but it must be worth trying something different because I think his onfield leadership still has an important part to play.

                      Now you're just talking nonsense!

It reminds me a bit of David Bolton. How many times was "the racehorse" run down from behind in his last year!

                          Interesting development:

Possible reason for his poor form so far?

This is all part of a great new scheme to move the Swans back to Melbourne, where they belong. Vote "One Player at a Time If Necessary!" at the next board election.
