I guess the "main session" is setting up tactics relevant to that weeks opposition - only really need one session for that. But still, why should Maxfield miss the other drills that help create teamwork, help understand your teammates strengths and weaknesses and help his damn kicking accuracy!Comment

Look at it this way - How have we been travelling with him in Sydney full time?
How has Maxfield's performance been?
Perhaps he has had other things on his mind - this may help his short term performance!!!Comment

What about a captaincy rotation policy? We're at a stage now where there are a lot of quality condenders for the role once Maxfield leaves. This could be a good opportunity for some of those players to step up to another level.
On the flipside, with now being a time of instability and uncertainty, it could be unwise to shuffle things around too much. But a new captain or captains, even if temporary, could bring a fresh attitude and dynamic to the club, which I think right now is what is really needed.
My opinion is that we should probably stick with Maxfield. He's delivered for us before and although I think he is carrying an injury, I'm certain he'll come good sooner or later.Comment

Besides the adverse affect of an absent captain has on a team and the bad example it has on young players (why wouldn't a future star seek to negotiate this arrangment for himself in a future contact ?? If the Swans wanted him enough they have set a precident which may not allow them selves not negotiate againts such a demand),
This is a public relations nightmare for Sydney, and a large step in the wrong direction for this club.
It reminds me of the Kangeroos abortive attempt at persuading the sydney public that they were serious about being a Sydney team when they did not even train i Sydney the week of their games !!
How are the Sydney public (esspecialy new fans) supposed to react to the fact that their captain only lives in their city half the time ???
Terrible and shocking situation for the club to be in.
Another reason Roos and Colless have to go !!!Comment

Maxfield
I think that the players are mature enough to realise the situation Maxfield is in. I am sure training will not be diminished in any way if the captain is not there for two days of the week.

haha that's gold!
I concur on both counts. How can you not see the idiocy of this situation ? Not to mention the damage to the Swans brand in the harbour city ??
We will be the laughing stock in rugby circles over this.
It gives all those haters of the Swans on the basis that we are just a Melbourne stooge a basis for their argument.Comment

PS, but actualy I don't hate them, I just hate their current administration, their current style of play and all the old Souths supporters who are having a negative influence on this clubs partial endevour to become a truely Sydney team.
Recent events have shown how committed they realy are to the Sydney market.
Sad sad times for the "Sydney" Swans, and also for Aussie rules in Sydney generaly.Last edited by footyhead; 3 May 2005, 02:40 PM.Comment
