What happens if we start winning?

Purely speculative of course, but what happened if we won a few games, even if won "ugly"?

Would the howling stop here? Or would it all be "window dressing" to deeper issues that stop the club being truly successful in the longer term?

Personally, I'm sure I'd enjoy winning again but find it all strnagely unsatisfying if it was at the cost of a more positive game plan. Still, I don't remember complaining too much when Malthouse turned WCE into a team of robots that won 2 flags so maybe I'm being hypcritical.

many of us were complaining last year about poor wins over Adelaide, in particular, and others such as the Hawthorn 1-pointer. Nobody loves dull affairs, and we were startgin to serve them up too much in 2004. The other thing we've always complained about here is the ability of the team to really bury a team at the end of a match and win by a big margin.

So, having said all that, I reckon if we win ugly, it will go something like:

"well, at least we won, which may give the players some confidence to go onto bigger and better things, but if this style of play continues, then its just the same old crap and we really are never going to challenge for the flag properly"

Thanks for responding - I thought no one was gonna to my 1st ever new thread.

I started contemplating qns like "If a thread dies on the Net & no one reads it does it still exist?"

The only thing I don't like about the current ugly-game situation is that we are losing. Should we win by creating a style of football in which the players run forward in a line while only every passing the ball backwards or a new style in which only the head, chest and feet are used I don't care.

I was going to reply, but Sharpie's reflected my sentiments.

I want to enjoy watching us play as well as us winning.

As I said elsewhere, if we kicked the first point of the game and then surrounded the ball with all 18 players for the rest of the game and did nothing so we won 0-1-1 to 0-0-0 I wouldn't watch that even if we won every game including the grand final.

No matter what happens - even if we did win the flag - people are still going to be negative on this board and still call for Roosy, Schneider, Buchanan, Bevan, Fosdike, Maxfield, Matthews, J. Bolton, Crouch, McVeigh, MOL, Hall, Schauble, C.Bolton, Davis, Kennelly, Ablett, etc etc to be Dropped and/or Sacked and for the rookies to get a game.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

              What a lot of nonsense.

People on this bored primarily want the Swans to win a flag and/or play spectacular agressive attacking football.

If either of these things happen you will hear a lot fewer complaints.

Yeah, I agree with Sharpie/NMW. I'm all for us winning, but I'd rather it didn't compromise our enjoyment of the game. I remember at the Adelaide match last year, I sat next to a couple who had travelled from SA just to watch the game. I felt so sorry for them - not because Adelaide lost, but because the match was such a dour affair and they had paid good money to see it. I'm sure those of you who travelled to Perth last week can identify with this.

I just don't think the swans are worth the entry fee with their current style of play, regardless of whether they win or lose. That doesn't mean I'll stop going to the games, but I'd like going to them to become less of a chore and more enjoyable.

All of us on this board are swans fans (well, pehaps not all of us!) but I think we are also lovers of the game as well. Most of us are not so one-eyed that we can appreciate the feats of other teams in the comp, as well as enjoy a well-fought high-skilled encounter, even if we do end up losing.

Kind of a reverse "Riverdance" style? I see Baz as more Tap Dog.

As for the subject, I will be delighted if we start winning. But, I wonder if we will win ever second game or frequently win most of them?
