With everybody and his dog writing us off for the season, is it better for us to just concentrate now on winning a few marquee games? I'd suggest putting all our effort into upsetting 'eye-gouger' Rioli's lot for starters, and then that dirty little b*st*rd Holland's phylthy Pies. I'd also like us to take revenge on the Kangas for that humiliation in Canberra for a third marquee win. Five wins for the season doesn't look so bad now...and it'll get us an early draft pick..

Re: 2005 not the year BUT...
I hope I see more than three wins for the rest of the year. I have a real problem with losing for the sake of better draft picks. I also think that after only 6 rounds, this kinda talk is somewhat premature. Sydney had a bad start in 96 and turned it round. Ever an optimist, I'm still hoping this lot can do the same.Originally posted by swan_song

On ya Cruiser - don't let this mob of chicken lickens get you down. No wonder the team is having a few confidence problems with fans like this. See you at the GF.Originally posted by cruiser

Thank God, someone else with a bit of optimism about em. We had a crap start in 2003, we had a crap start in 1996. We lost 3 in a row as well during the start of 2003. We turned it around with a few confidence bossting wins. Thats all we need. We are a time that thives off confidence. At the moment we have none, look at the results. People will bag the style of play. I have no real qualms about it. It is exciting when they play it with confidence, as the guys are running off each others hips, their making an option, providing those team lifting 1%ers. Give it time, we will be back for a big season.Originally posted by cruiser

Turning it around and winning a few games is one thing, actually setting ourselves up for a future tilt at the flag is another.Originally posted by motorace_182

We are actually one of the worst sides in the comp for 1%ers.as the guys are running off each others hips, their making an option, providing those team lifting 1%ers.
It's certainly possible, I'm just not sure why we always need to give it time...Give it time, we will be back for a big season.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

There's plenty of people who still think we have just as good a chance to win the flag this year as any team. Even Roos believes it, but knows it will take a very consistent team effort in every game. Losing 4 so far has put us even futher behind in our quest, but its a long season.
Think of it this way: It sucks a lot more to be a Port supporter at the moment. "Cause we wont STOP STOP STOP, till we reach the TOP TOP TOP!! Aw crap... we just reached the top!?"

You think part of the reason the team is having confidence problems is because some people on RWO, after we lose, complain about their performance. That's nonsensical on so many levels...Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Are you asking if that is what I think or are you channelling for me again and then passing comment ?

I don't undertsand why we shouldn't crtisize the players if they don't play well. They are professionals and the are not just playing footy for fun, but also to reach the ultimate goal to win the premiership. If I underperform at my job I get critisized , why shouldn't we do the same with our players.
AFL is not a little leage and footballers are not amateurs. I will praise them when they win and critisize when they loos. Especially, when they don't put enough ewffort and hart into the game. Every game should be treated as winnable.
So, there, that's my opinion (running for cover from PC RWO'ers

Here's my take on it from the year or two that I've been lurking. Being unconstructively negative is bad - as is being unconstructively positive (is unconstructively a word?). The players definitely deserve criticism if they are underperforming. It's the need to unceremoniously attack a player that is perhaps unnecessary.I don't undertsand why we shouldn't crtisize the players if they don't play well.
But does your boss say "you suck at this job, I never should have given it to you. You'll never be any good. You should be sacked at the end of the year and replaced by the kid in the mail room. No idea if he can do the job but he can't be any worse than you." Chances are when you do a bad job your boss will criticise and then try to find a solution to your poor form.If I underperform at my job I get critisized , why shouldn't we do the same with our players.
Having said that, I did work for a boss once that constantly criticised and did threaten me with the sack each week - unsurprisingly all his good staff left and he went broke.
