The 5pm ABC news said that Stewie has stepped down and Kirk has stepped in as interim captain for this weekend. The captaincy will be decided next week.

If true, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Maxfield's been in decline for so long, it would be pure incompetence not to have planned the succession.
Rabble?
As Stu only flew up today, it was hard to see how they'd fit in practice plus the Roos-Stewie meeting and then a team meeting before the press conference in time for the evening news. This way is perfect - Brett goes back to a roll he fulfilled a fortnight ago then they have lots of time early next week. I wonder if Stewie will fly up for that meeting??Comment

As a general principle, lunatics shouldn't run asylums, and meat popsicles shouldn't be required to think.
Plans should have been made in December.
It can only be Kirk, Hall or Goodes.Last edited by midaro; 5 May 2005, 05:51 PM.Comment

Surely they would have considered the potential replacement at the beginning of the year.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Plus:
- It gives Stewie a big send-off from the role this weekend all to himself. The new captain can get the same reception next week.
- It would smack of a deliberate ousting of the captain if someone was appointed without "due consideration" or at least the semblance of it. Convince the guy to commute, put pressure on him to resign, and then appoint a successor quick smart. Contructive dismissal if ever there was one.
I think this is the right decision. Our Greatest Moment:

It has been stated previously by the Club that the players elect the leadership group but the Club selects the Captain from that group. This seems like a good system to me. And because the leadership group fulfils the role they don't need a vice-captainComment

Only choice for Captain, Barry Hall. He could belt the crap out of anyone not performing. On second thoughts, he might get too tired week after week to play!In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment
