The AFL needs to lay its cards on the table about what they are going to do in Sydney.

If they are going to put a 2nd team in sometime in the next 10 years, then they need to leave the west open to the new team. In that case the swans cant move there for the majority of their games, lest they take over the area, and the new team has no new demographic.

If the swans are to be the only team in Sydney for the foreseable future, then they should move the majority of games out there. Its central, its big, its modern, and its a better shape for developing our game around. The SCG can be used from 3-4 smaller games.

I wish the St Kilda game was out there this year.

I love Telstra Stadium and would be happy for the Swans to play all of their games there. The concourse seating is excellent, the ground is a good size to play on, its easy to get to (even if you live near the SCG), its facilities are far superior and the service much quicker. I get an Olympic memories buzz every time I walk out of the station there. And Saturday night proved that even with only 31,600 people attending, you can generate a great atmosphere if the game itself encourages it.

Completely agree. The SCG has gotten worse over the years. I much prefer watching matches at TS. (I have similar viewing possies at both venues.) The facilities at TS far outweigh those at the SCG.

          1) Why do you think the majority of members come from the Eastern suburbs of Sydney? THE SCG...of course more people are likely to become members if they live closer to the ground. Even more reason to attract new members by playing some games at Telstra Stadium.
First part is anecdotal rubbish, secondly where are these new members after a good few years at Telstra ?

Let me tell you, as a primary school teacher last year I took 30 children from my local primary school to the Sydney V Collingwood game at TELSTRA STADIUM who had never seen an AFL game before (The Swans kindly gave us 30 tickets). Taking them to the SCG was too far on a Staurday night. As a result of that experience for them, two families have signed as members and 4 others only go to the Telstra Stadium matches. THERE'S A FACT!!
Could not give a rats what you do for a living, although it would be nice to think that children have some hope of a future, but not relevant to this post.

So because YOU could not get to the SCG with YOUR kids on a Saturday night with YOUR free tickets this is a valid reason to move to Homebush ?

2 new members is great news, but as you have failed to address again, despite a good few years at Telstra our membership is stagnant, so im afraid your FACT is anecdotal rubbish.

I prefer Telstra for most of the reasons stated above. I think it is probably easier to get to for about 70% of Sydney. I also think that the SCG is probably easier to get to for about 70% of Swans members. But the best thing about Telstra is the size of its playing surface. More games there, or demolish the stands at the SCG, extend the length of the ground, and build state of the art facilities for the spectators.

Try not to bring some sane points into this, it only ruins a good hissy fit !

This thread is about stating your point of veiw as fact, failing to read what is actually written, then attacking the individual who wrote it !

Strange moderating on this board sometimes, seems somewhat subjective !

Sorry, I had no intention of providing a voice of reason. It is a fact that it is probably easier for about 70% of Swans fans to get to Telstra...

I would be interested to hear where the players actually prefer to play. All we ever get is 'the party line', so to speak.

Certainly population wise yes, but that is the difference between fans and members. Aside from all the hissy fit factually incorrect garbage, I think 3 games out there is a good idea, assuming we are not losing money hand over fist as we were originally. (but dont tell anyone as it would ruin the "myopic eastern suburbs line!).

Trouble is, after a good few years it has not impacted on our Sydney membership figures ! so as pointed out previously, either old members are not renewing and we are attracting new ones, or more likely we simply are not attracting new ones.

A lot of money spent on little reward so far !

Mark, I don't want to or had intended to turn this into a slanging match. But the fact is that you actually attacked me first when I politely replied to Wil's comment on Telstra Stadium. I stated my point of view, with no comments "made up" or done to "suit me". You are the one that actually turned around and attacked my credability first.

But anyway, who cares, I have a happy life, you most probably don't. Have fun and keep smiling!

Despite your constant myopic rants on this issue you CANNOT refuse the findings the swans made at the first Telstra game aganst Essendon. Over 53% of people at that match had NEVER seen an AFL match before. If 50% come back again then that would have been an extra 25000 supporters for our club.

Stop looking at this that just suit you personally. Telstra Stadium is a highly important tool for which a new market can be reached for the game. It is closer to the game's Sydney 'heartland' the Hills district, it opens up markets like the Bankstown area, Parramatta, Liverpool, the greater west to the game and to the Swans.

I am fed up with a small minority of Sydneysders only ever looking at things on the auspices of what suits them personally. The club has gotten things just right in regards to the amount of games played at either ground. It however does NOT stop the fact that in my belief the SCG is the WORST ground in the AFL facilities-wise. Not decent upgrading, just a bandaid solution of putting more seats in the concourse area. And making them all aqua.

It is however a worrying thought that our 3 'blockbuster' games will be against the 3 lowest teams on the lader. Who'd have thought that 12 months ago?

I wonder if there will ever be the situation where due to the big crowd the AFL will move one of our SCG games to Homebush. Could they logistically do that?

                      JF
                      Exceedingly well said JF!

In reply to your last question re moving a game out west from the SCG, I'd imagine that this would be hard to do because of corporate committments perhaps? Not really sure though.
