So, you actually think he played well or you were just saying that because you love him?

Last night ROK made some efforts to prove the suggestion of him "playing taller than he really is" true. The second the opposition backmen get the ball he chased them down like a resting ruckman!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

The tactics we adopted created exactly that situation. Only some good defensive efforts and some Dons passes just missing their marks meant that they didn't have a shot at goal to even up the scores. It makes me wild that a team that's running rings around the opposition is suddenly so afraid of losing that they don't want to go out and win it by either scoring or at least getting and keeping the ball in our attacking 50. I really hope that our coaching/on-field leadership group prevents this kind of blunder from recurring. (I won't even mention Goodesie's terrible foot disposal meaning that he missed a crunch short pass to Kirk at halfback with seconds to go. Has he regressed since 2003, or is he the most unreliable kick to ever win a Brownlow medal?)

Yeah great post - i thought exactly the same thing - the Swans were dropping back so far they were encouraging the run from the Essendon backs and midfielders into the packed forward line.

Also I think we had two (albeit somewhat difficult) shots on goal that should have resulted in at least a point to get than magic 13 point buffer but to no avail. I thought that my beligerant wailing from the opposite end of the ground was heard by Magic, but perhaps my lungs aren't what they used to be...

Spriggs has had enough chances...it's time for him to go and give someone else a run.
Buchanan was great,it's amazing what being dropped can do for a player.
Well done to the new kids on the block.I thought they were both managed well by Roosy. They both had limited time until the last quarter and were there to bring us home.
Davis definately has a chronic soft tissue problem. We took a risk which backfired. How long before we try him again...maybe in the two's.
                A good win.Well done Swannies.

A good positive win if not exactly awe-inspiring.

Some players that I (amongst others) have been bagging who deserve some plaudits:
                  - Crouch - best game of the year - some real dash and great attack of the ball
                  - Buchanan resurrected his career
                  - Bazza's best game too (better than Brissie) - leading well, contested marks, much more confident on the set shot
                  - NOG - another solid game

On the down side, Spriggs, LRT and Matthews did nothing to suggest they'll be part of our longer term plan. Spriggs & Matthews in particular have such flawed games (Spriggs - poor use of the pill, Matthews - pathological need to double back into trouble) that they should be moved on.

Loved the effort from Vogels & Bulldog did well with ltd game time.

More positives than negatives and that's at least a start.

Not being a smart-arse, I think Spriggs should go for an eye test.

To check whether he has any?

Spriggs only seems to have one kick. My golfing skills aren't that great but it looks to be about a 7 or 8 iron to me, while he needs to get his number 5 out.

Failing that, he needs to understand his limitations and not try to deliver over anyone's head. His clearance ability looks pretty good - there were a few times on the weekend when he came away from the pack with the ball. The team just needs to be able to harness that - or bring McVeigh in instead.

"Oh Yeah" he says with a big smile.
