    McVeigh

Going on the reserves thread, he seems likely to come back into the side next week, so I was wondering if the reason he hasnt cemented a spot in the side because of his ability, maturity, of the coaching staff not playing him in a position to suits his style.

With his lightweight frame, tagging is not really an option. Neither is borrowing under packs. He seems ideally suited to outside receiver, or maybe wing, half forward flanker?

Be interesting to compare his development to Salopek in the Port game. He hasnt set the world on fire either, and we were tossing up between the two at draft time.

I hope not, but I fear so.

I considered him something of a 'sacred cow' last year. IMO his efforts to this point, have been made more of than they deserved--likely because of his high draft status
...but there's still plenty of hope.

I know it is a big call.. but I don't think he will make it - just a rough call but I am prepared (and hopeful) that I am wrong!

I think he will be a handy midfielder but not the star player that many are hoping he will turn out to be. Hope he proves me wrong.

If he becomes as good as his brother I will be happy. Don't forget McVeigh Junior is 4 years younger than Mark

Thats why I think the coaching staff really need to build a position around him to make him a star. FFS Melbourne made Woewoewoeful a star.

I don't see how Mcveigh could be compared to Selapek as the latter was ill for the most of last season and has been injured up until last week.I thought McVeigh would have come in for Maxfield but Buchanan certainly made the most of his chance.I think Spriggs has had enough chances and it will be interesting to see if Maxfield comes back this week.I was disappointed for McVeigh he didn't get a game last night.

Um... no. I'm not sure what that's about TF. Perhaps you are confusing me with someone else. And anyway, why do I have to be Mr Pink?

On this board we were tossing up between the two (well basically it was me and TheMase, saying pick Salopek/Schammer, while the rest wanted the local kid), but the club itself was always going to select McVeigh and even when Carlton got stripped of their picks (thus meaning our pick 7 became pick 5), the club didn't even think of changing their mind.

Funny how they wanted him so badly, yet he hardly gets gametime to become the midfield the club and many on here wanted him to become.

Give him 100 minutes per match... and he'll be in our top dozen within a year.

Eade had this annoying practice of playing blokes off the bench for a fraction of the game, then dropping them back after a couple of games to give them match practice.

Maybe McVeigh is suffering the same fate. Be interesting if he drops Spriggs back for McVeigh. Could be a Seniors/ Reserves rotation going on here.

I agree, I think he's shown enough promise to persist with him this season. He needs to get more game time rather than playing one game for 30 minutes, getting dropped then back again the week after. He's got much better skills than Spriggs, Spriggs goes hard at the ball but can't find a target when he gets it.
