    Message to cheer squad

Please dont hassle people sitting near you to cheer with you. People will if they want to. Tonight I noticed a short guy wearing glasses giving grief to other Swans supporters near the CS for not joining in with your cheers. Please don't. You will only alienate yourselves from other supporters, who will cheer when they want to - as we all did in the last quarter.

    Thanks.

They must have been pissed off that their attempts to start the Sydney chant didn't get very far.

In the last quarter I think the chants started simultaneously all around the ground.

        Thanks.

the guy you are refering to is actually a guy with a disability. One of the Roosters Chook Pen guys who comes to our games too to help us in the Cheer Squad. He was just being a bit over-enthuisiastic I think. Apologies if anyone was offended by his urging.

You can only try and fire people up. As you said, if they choose to not get involved, then that is their business. I've given up worrying about that sort of thing myself to be honest. I just do the best i get to get those wanting to join in our chants involved in the game and supporting the team.

I thought we really got the crowd going though up our end in the last quarter, despite the drum and big flags unfortunately having been left in the shed at the SCG. People were even joining in the "!! !!! !!!! Sydney" chants myself and Benny_W started. The long "Sydddddddneyyy" chant was really loud as the game. Don't know what game you were at Ugg.

i have some ideas for the Pies match out there too as to how I can reach the whole crowd. But I'm keeping them under raps at this stage.

As cruiser said, those seemed to start from around the ground. The ones I was referring to were during the middle stages of the game when we were still trailing. Don't get me wrong, I think you guys do a terrific job of trying to fire up a crowd that at times is quite insipid.

as we know the Sydney audience is a very reactive crowd. The swans put a string of goals together; the crowd gets into it. The opposition dominates, everyone shuts up. As Robbie Williams would say "Sing when your winning!"

The thing I find frustrating is when I start one chant from down the front and another has started at the same time from up the back. I'm not needling anyone. It is just the way it is I guess.

I'm looking at getting something that will hopefully alleviate that for the Collingwood match out at Homebush. It should be nice and loud too!

i'm looking at seeing whether everyone behind the goals will break into the simple "Ole Ole Ole Ole Syd-ney!" song. I don't know whether Aussies will dig that kind of support, but you can always try I guess. It IS great to see people starting to hold out their scarves European-style when we get the "Syyyyyyyydddddneeeeey' chant going. The Sydney crowd definitely is a different audience to elsewhere in the AFL footy world. Definitely brought up differently.
