He has been involved in rather nasty break-up with his wife I hear. Has gotten bad in regards to custody of his children I hear. He has had to spent a great amount of time in Melbourne so as to have any sort of access to his kids at all. This probably explains both this article, and some of his poor form this year.
Maybe it would be best for him to retire from footy now? So that he can try and get his life together.
And to think several of us in Brisbane had the temerity to be pretty scathing of his efforts. As with many things in footy, there is often more happening behind the scenes than the average person realises.

well said JF were sometimes all armchair critics without knowing the possible background situations of an individual - pjm
didn't he sustain some kind of injury in the Eagles match? - I assume that's what it was, I wouldn't think he would've pulled out solely because of any personal issues
Satements from Stu towards the end of the week specifically said that he had NO trouble with access to the kids - and he thanked his wife for that. But she had gone back to Melbourne and he was missing them a lot so if he wanted to see them more he had to be in Melbourne more.
Here's another clue - why did we have to find it in the Advertiser??
Fracture adds to Maxfield's turmoil

AFTER a week of turmoil in which he stood down as Sydney captain, Stuart Maxfield faces an uncertain playing future after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left knee.
Club doctor Nathan Gibbs yesterday said Maxfield desperately wanted to play against Essendon on Saturday, but he was ruled out after a scan revealed the injury.
Gibbs said if Maxfield had taken the field, any further damage to the joint could have required surgery and ended his season.

Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

Originally posted by Sanecow 2nd May 2005 Maxfield looks to have an ankle injury. Limped off late in the game trying to hide it. I don't know if he sustained it during the game (maybe the broadcast showed it?) or if a pre-match or half-time shot was wearing off.
You people should pay more attention and stop yelling for blood.
