So Kirky played alright and his possessions were good?

I'd actually like to see crouchy play more of an attacking midfield role. I thought his game was great last night with the allowance of a bit of run. Sure his opponent got some easy possessions and used them well to create but crouch did ok too.

I just plain don't like Mathews. When Roos took over he showed a bit of heart but he is back to ordinary status.

He gets on the end of very easy possessions and delivers poorly both by hand and foot.

I can't for the life of me see how he was pivitol to us winning last night. As P46 says, "when we win Mathew's ordinaryness gets hidden".

He is slow, runs back into play when he gets it, often cheats by deliberately being second to the ball so he can put on a tackle. Weak stuff. Also if he went to 4 to 5 players last night it may have been because he was continually getting towelled up. If he was flogging his man why would any coach keep moving him.

I don't know NMW so there is no collusion on opinion, obviously we see the same deficiencies in his game.

I guess youwere at the game too.Just don't be so 'black and white' and your opinions( what, all ten million) may be better respected.
Then again, I love a bit of controversy ....not keen on ignorance tho.

              Couldn't agree more Nico.

On Saddo, I thought he went well but I've seen him play far too many bad games, to be on the bandwagon at this stage.

I never said he didn't - I simply said Saddo makes a better link man. He finds players in better position than Mathews does.
I never said that you said that he didn't.

I agree with what you said about him being a back pocket - probably his best position.

In regards to making the best 22 of better sides, it's hard to say. He does well in the B&F so you would have to assume that he does what is asked of him. That's a quality that most sides would appreciate. However, he can't play forward and wouldn't come close to making the midfield for sides like St Kilda, Geelong and West Coast. I could actually see him fitting into Port's side OK. As a back pocket he may get a gig with a couple of the good sides.

Yeah, I think he probably would sneak into a back pocket of a number of other sides.

I still think Saddo's kicking was awfull, but he tried very hard. I'm in two minds at the moment whether or not he should stay in the top 22 list. I'd leave to Roos to decide.

He would win a copeland at Collingwood atm!!

Not a Mathews fan and haven't been for the reasons mentioned here. His delivery by hand is OK but it's poor decision making that stuffs that up (to players standing still or covered). His kicking is very ordinary...floaters that land with the opposition. Reminds me of a young Paul Morwood...'circles'.

We have too many 'back pocket' types for my liking - Mathews, Crouch, Bevan, Nicks (plays on the small forwards). We need more centreman/ruck rover types. Who can hit a target 40m away under pressure...which removes most of them.

RUTB we are allowed to find fault in our players. It's OK.

Matthews isn't a bad link man in the backline. Stick with him, he does his job.

Move Crouch into the middle and release him, his skills are ok and hes got plenty of pace. I'm sure he'll do a better job there than Spriggs. We don't need him in the back pocket anymore, like you said we have too many players in that position.

I agree with you Nico - i cringe whenever Mathews gets the ball almost as much as I do when LRT gets the ball. What is this talk of him possibly being captain? Please god no - no no no. We don't need another stuart maxfield as captain - past his prime, prone to mistakes. Captain Kirk all the way - thought he did a great job.

Did anyone see his (Kirk) interview on the AFL footy show? Wasn't on till about 1.50am in sydney.... Did they seriously spend the whole time writing him off for the International series? I bet he thought he was going on there to answer some serious questions about the week that the swans were having and they spent the whole time writing him off?

Crouch has been playing his games in the midfield as a tagger. Bevan has been used as the back pocket player against the opposition goalsneak all of last year and this year, unless someone like a Farmer demands that Crouch play on him.

I think it varies from game to game. Crouch was on Sampi for much of last week. This week he was on Lovett at times, who kind of played as a smallish forward but one who plays quite deep and relies on his pace to run in and kick goals. At other times he seemed to have been given licence to play his own game and was quite effective in breaking the lines through the midfield, especially late in the game.

Bevan was largely played on small forwards last year but seems to have been thrown around the ground this year. He seems to have spent a fair amount of time in midfield and also has been thrown forward at times (which, to be fair, he was on occasions last year too).
