So let's see ... MJ swore at the umpire, poked at Monty with his boot and swore at Monty. Perhaps the umpire was using a points-based decision-making model and the final bit of swearing gave enough points for a 50m penalty?

Let's see:
MJ swears at the umpire - 70 points.
MJ pokes Monty with the boot - 20 points.
MJ swears at Monty - 20 points.

That's 110 points so time to pay the 50!

I also saw the swing with his leg, and thought originally it was for that (at the game).
