You give ONE player a dress-rehearsal? Or better yet you "give" it to him but tell him its not really his, without being open enough to let him know who he has to do better than.

I can't see how they can doubt Kirk's ability to be a good captain. But I read the rotation as placing some doubt their belief in him.
Of the rest of the rotatees I reckon only 3 are in with some chance and there are question marks over all three - Hall his discipline, and Goodes and Bolton their consistency. If they want the job they have this year not to demonstrate that Kirk is not a worthy candidate, but that they would be even better.
