It was the biggest shake-up at the club since I took over as head coach in round 13, 2002. Jarrad McVeigh, Adam Schneider, Matthew Nicks and Amon Buchanan were all dropped.

On form, Monty was the hardest out of the four to leave out in the first place.

I thought his form had been down.

With younger, developing players like McVeigh and Schneider, their body types often make it harder to do the basics really well.

We need McVeigh and Schneider, whether it's this year or next year, playing well in our midfield and forward line.

I guess he meant in terms of the "basics". Amon had been getting his head over the ball - it was what happened afterwards that was a bit of a lottery.

I didn't quite understand this bit:

McVeigh is still a bit skinny I guess but Schneider isn't.

That's a bit sad because I like Nicks and I didn't think he was playing too badly but his mistakes were frustrating me. It is best that we keep playing youngsters instead of him - especially if we win some games.

And a great quote from the coach for the LRT apologists:

I'm a card carrying LRT apologist but I tend to think if he can't hold a first team spot then it may be all over for him. He's too big and strong to play in Canberra from all reports. If our reserves played in the VFL then it would be good for him. Grundy is a good example - he seems to be creating havoc there because there aren't many players who can match up with a true AFL size KPP.

I find this a really interesting comment by Roos, then this week he brings them both back?? so has McVeigh/Schneider put on 10kg in the last 2 weeks?

I find it strange to bring back both players this week as Power are one of the hard teams of the comp?

Roos is timid. Dropping 4 (atcually 3) fringe players is called "weilding the axe".

Dropping MOL, Crouch and maxfield 3 weeks ago would have been "wielding the axe" IMO.

Schneider is still carrying a little puppy fat but his body is still quite underdeveloped in terms of an AFL player. What they both lack a bit at the moment is strength through their hips and upper legs to enable them to hold their ground in contests. Both get bumped off the ball quite easily at the moment.

Fair enough. I didn't think that Schneider was any less developed than someone like Sam Mitchell was a year or two ago. But, it's probably just his upper body that I've noticed.

I think Nicks must have at least another year on his contract.
Based on my obserrvation he only delivers in the last year of a contract. Should mean all his contracts should be one year only.

I would flick him anyway.

That's what I thought - dropping at least a couple of senior players is normally 'wielding the axe'.

well depending on how would define the axe. Roos might not be strong enough to hold any axe heavier than the one he is using. This is simply because Roos might not have the confidence in himself. I am tired of reading his ramblings lately. It was good for the first year after that it is an old script that does not need to waste any one attention to .

That's a good point. Spriggs does as well.

Ablett and Buchanan hit the contest just like "real" midfielders. Hopefully Moore will be counted with them pretty soon.

We just need John Nichols to transplant/clone his legs onto some of our players and we would have a few Stewart Dews. He must be John Nichols love child; those legs are massive.

It also must be a bit of an Ablett thing as those thighs give good kicking strength.

Sam Mitchell has always been built like a brick outhouse right back to under 14's. He was always hard at it and found the foort.

How old is Schneider, and how long does a so called elite footballer carry puppy fat. Fair dinkum there seems to be a weekly excuse for this imposter. As long as his clacker points to the ground he will not be a hard, tough footballer. Forward pocket goal sneak is as good as you could describe him.

I reckon Roos's hidden agenda is to keep pumping up his tyres to put some value into him as trade bait.

He was 21 on Sunday I believe.

I agree he needs to lose some weight. I wouldn't discount him as a footballer though.
