    Fringe Players

Does anyone know how far off Benny Fixter and Jarred Sundquvist (Spellcheck?) are from pressuring for selection? Have either had a game in the ressies yet? cheers
    - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

I believe Sunny played in the ressies last week - would imagine it would still be a while before he pushes for selection considering guys like Willo, Ball, Davis etc are still to come back into the best 22 and then you have guys like Schneider, Malceski etc trying to force their way in too, while Moore, McVeigh, Vogels try to stay in the lineup.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Sundqvist played last weekend. Not entirely sure how much game time he got but he caught my eye in the second and third quarters, looking composed and fairly skilful on a wing / HFF.

Didn't see the reserves the week before so I don't know if last week was his first one back.

No sign of either Fixter or James in the twos yet.

What is the matter with Fixter? Is it just old age setting in?
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Anyone have any ideas about Potter, whilst we're on the subject of fringe players?
I read in someone's post over the weekend that he came off in the 3rdQ of the ressies, injured. Ideas?
And you can't find nothing at all,
If there was nothing there all along.

He then caught my eye sitting on the bench with his socks and boots off in the final quarter.
Some guys just have NO luck!

He came off with a left shoulder injury

Potter kept trying to stretch his arm...they iced it and put his arm in a sling.

Im not sure how bad it is though

As for Fixter, hes got that quad injury...suppose to be out for another week..ive seen him training, he doesnt look to bad.

A little man is sitting in a room with two doors. One door says "Do Not Enter" and the other says "Do Not Exit". So he just sits there, holding his hat.

Is anyone up with the progress or otherwise of Ed Clarke. I desperately want this bloke to be the next Lee Matthews and early (pre)season signs were promising. Haven't seen his name come up in the reserves bests for a while.

                  Is he making any progress?

He played a pretty good game a few weeks ago but other than that he's looked pretty run of the mill. Can't see him playing senior football this year even if another rookie spot opens up.

I'm guessing that a few of the rookies will be given a second chance next year, either on the rookie list or on the senior list. (There will probably be a fair number of departures at the end of the year, with Nicks, Ball, Maxfield, James, Fixter, Powell and maybe Sunny if he can't get fit all possibles.)

But Vogels and Grundy would have to be the front runners at this stage, while there was no point in ever drafting Shaw if they weren't going to give him a couple of years at least. Garruba has also done far more to date than Clarke in the twos, though I wonder whether Garruba might be a little plain vanilla to make it at top grade.

Thanks Liz, a shame. From what I have read about Clarke, he's got a great footy brain and is as strong as an Ox. I think he'd be a cult sort of player - unorthodox in appearance.

Ed, if you are read this, pull your finger out son! We want you to succeed.

One wonders why some players can get it together on limited means (beloved Kirky), while other more gifted individuals struggle to make the grade (too numerous to mention).

Why is the sky blue, the leaves green?

With the various departures this year and possibly lower than normal ladder finish, I am hoping this year's draft is a vintage.

Then again, would be happy to win the flag and get bottom choice.
