Bugger, two weeks and hardly a negative mention.Must mean the boy is doing his job.Pretty well indeed yesterday in fact.Restricted Cooney to meagre possessions before being dragged and then Benny took Giansiracusa and shut him down too.In the meantime picking up a dozen or so good possessions and adding a bit of spine .Now, don't get me wrong, he ain't no Hird and his brain can sometimes be a dangerous milisecond slow ,but MAYBE, we might realise his value to the team and ,I reckon, he'll be a worthwhile temporary captain.Seems we win games when he plays too.

I was staggered by Cooney's stats. Had trouble keeping track of the match ups & my children at the same time, but it that was Matthews' job then it was a job well done.

I think he did a very good job on Cooney. His delivery wasn't too bad at times either.

His value to the team is as a defensive player.

Id rate him as highly as your grammar...
2 good weeks don't make a career buddy. I have been impressed over the last fortnight in his efforts, his dispoal has mildly improved... but he is definitely not captain material.

While he can handball to the wrong team mate and still floats too many kicks (he's does this a lot less than Spriggs, who even does it in the 2's) he can smother a good opposition player when needed.

Well you all know my thoughts on Mathews - he is too inconsistent, has flashes of brilliance and then loses the plot, he is very slow as decision making and is certainly not captain material.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

you are indeed a precious ignorant little twerp aren't you Motor? I usually wouldn't bother to respond to such a small minded ,wacker like you but ,i suppose, we have to put up with all kinds as supporters.Trust me , there are more sophisticated ways of making a point.

P46 one of Benny's greatest fans said recently that when we win anything the great man does wrong seems to get lost in the euphoria.

But alas he wasn't too bad this week. Agree with Motorace though. 2 weeks is hardly long enough to even contemplate for a second that he may be about to rise to great heights.

Pot calling the kettle black regards "precious". Don't worry about it Red, Motorace has called me a moron and a fruitcake, twice, but I didn't go out and slash the wrists. All in a day's fun.

As long as he remains reasonably consistent and plays his role for the team i'll be happy. I can agree that he probably isn't captain's material but you never know

I reckon that Mathews has helped out the team greatly in the last few weeks. He appears to be playing as a tagger which means that Kirk, Ablett and sometimes Crouch don't have to. He seems to be doing quite a good job so I'm happy.

Sure he's probably not really captaincy material but that's not something that people should hold against him. He was voted into the leadership group and they are all having a shot except for those that are too old. It's not like he's out there campaigning for the job.

Hehe, everyone takes it all way too seriously on here dont they... ah well.
Back on topic... I would like to see Kirk get the captaincy for another 3 years until he is ready to hand it over to someone like Luke Ablett or Jude Bolton, or whoever it may be in the right situation. Because at the moment, Ben Mathews is not the right man to captain the club. He may do an ok job, but there are defeinitely better applicants out there.

Well i sure am hoping Paul Roos did, otherwise there is no reason for him being trialled at all! If he isnt seen fit to take over the reigns in 18 months time, then why are we bothering with giving him a shot??
