a) The club isn't an absolute basketcase financially.
b) We do have some very good players; Hall, Goodes, Kennelly, Williams, Maxfield and O'Loughlin when he gets fit.
c) Roos is better than that. I refuse to believe we could make such a monumental stuff-up on someone whose been at the club to varying degrees for 8 years.
d) The draft system is much better designed now to enable us to rebuild... unlike the system in the late-80s to early-90s.
e) We aren't that far behind the rest of the competition. We hate Anthony Rocca
We hate Shannon Grant too
We hate scumbag Gaspar
But Leo WE LOVE YOU!Comment

F) It's only 3 games in a row, we have plenty of time before then to win 1 match
G) Bucky is no longer the coachOnce was, now elsewhereComment

Re: Nostalgia
No...it could never be that bad again could it?
I think we are a fair way off the bad old days. However, I think we are also a fair way off premiership plans in three years.
Much of our side consists of those players at around 50-100 games now, and they are really are not looking like becoming top notch AFL players. We might have some good youngsters coming through, but we seem to lack champions. Once these younger guys become more experienced, that won't necessarily solve our problems, as the current middle rank players will still be there and they need to improve a great deal.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

We aren't that far behind the rest of the competition.
If we could get our best 22 fit and firing, we wouldn't need to fear any opposition. Outside of that best group, the quality falls away very quickly.
But even with a team weakened by injuries, we're far better off than we were early in the 90s. Most of us still expect the Swans to win, even if we're not performing that great. Back then, there were no expectations . . . just a hope that the game wouldn't be all over by qtr time.

Amazingly enough, I reckon I could have written my comments of last year again. Same issues, same problems. At the end of last year, I thought that this group of players had finally proved my wrong, but maybe not.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

The difference is that last year we lost 3 in a row to Freo (away), Adelaide (home) and Hawthorn (away). THis year, we have lost to Melbourne (home), Essendon (away) and Richmond (home).
Looking at just that, I'd say we have less reason for optimism, simply because we lost to a rabble in Richmond where we were clear cut favourites. And that we have lost 2 home games as opposed to the one last year.Comment

Sorry Charlie,
I did lots of retrospective reading but only posted the three that seemed most pertinent. I was trying to show the pattern. There was so much doom and gloom and everyone being negative towards the team, Roos and each other that I thought some perspective was needed. I notice tonight that there seems to be something akin to resignation or optimism shining through so I'll stop. Besides, it's tricky to go back to page 172 then to page 1 and return. I just wish I could go back to see what we would have written when Rocket was coach and we really had something to complain about. The negative pattern everyone has been raising was Eade induced. Somehow I don't see Roos as a latter-day Rocket. And I think the Swans of 2004 are more multidimensional, too.Comment
