    'For the record'

With all the talk of who should go and who should stay, could everybody please post there lists of players who shouldn't be on the list next year, as performances stand so far?

Would make very interesting reading come September I think!

    Mine:
Mathews (could be attractive trade bait... maybe... and isn't doing enough with us)
Seymour (too broken, too bruised, too slow, hoping to be proved wrong for the sake of our defence though)
McPherson (want him to have another couple of weeks... but so far hasn't shown enough)
Nicks (too slow, too unfit... doesn't seem to have the dedication required anymore)
    Warfe (ditto Seymour)
    We hate Anthony Rocca
    We hate Shannon Grant too
    We hate scumbag Gaspar
    But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

What I would say is that these players should be on notice.

    McPherson
    Warfe
    Nicks
    Matthews
    Saddington
    Jude Bolton

They have all carried their average form from last year through to this year, with the exception of Bolton, who has improved a bit, but I feel will drop off anyway.

They have teh rest of the year to shine, but they had better start soon, or by the end of the year they will be on very thin ice

      McPherson
      Warfe
      Nicks
      Matthews
      Saddington
      Jude Bolton

I would keep Jude, he WILL develop into something good, he just needs timw which noone is giving him. He just needs to concentrate a bit more on the delivery.

      My list would contain:
      McPherson (too old and slow)
      Warfe (As above-waste of pay)
Nicks (seems to lack fitness and desire)
Matthews (a worthless player who is horribly overrated)
Luke Ablett (Not the brain and fitness to last)
Ryan O'Keefe (maybe as bait in conjunction with Ben for a defender)

We need backman, Tadgh is beeing thrown down there and is being exploited so often it is embarrasing. Most of his best work on Saturday was in open space or on the wing

IMO Saddo is really struggling because he's playing out of position at CHB...If only we had the luxury of putting him on the Flank or Wing he'd be doing ok

But here is my list on who should go or be put on noticed

McPherson-Gone....i think we can pencil this one in no matter what the outcome of the season is

Matthews-Trade Bait or Gone...don't care but he has to go

Seymour-Gone...too bad we didn't trade him to St.Kilda a couple of yrs ago when he still had worth

Warfe-Gone......Good Player in his Prime but injuries have got the better of him

Nicks-Trade or Gone....maybe being unfair to him since i think he is playing out of position at FP but is starting to look really passed his used by date and unfit as well

Magic-Trade......unfair on him considering he's just returned but FP/HF is something we have many of so if he doesn't perform we could get a 1st round draft pick or a young midfielder (Hayes)

Fossie-Trade.....Needs to really step up this year but i'm willing to give him another year to shine

        Bolton-Trade......Ditto with Fossie

Ablett and Stevens have both been pretty dissapointing so far but that is due to limited opportunities so they won't be included on my list, but considering they have been on the senior list for a number of years, they have to start showing what they've got to offer to the club.

my list is almost the same and for mostly the same reasons
            warfe

            mcpherson

            matthews

            nicks

            schauble

              Ball (Retired)
              Cresswell (Retired)
              McPherson (Delisted)
              Warfe (Delisted)

Those 4 will go at seasons end no doubt about it.

              Trade Bait

              Nicks
              Mathews
              Ablett
              Stevens
Magic (Hate to say it but needs to do a Goodes form wise, I want to be proven wrong though)

Now if we can't rid of the above some heads will be on the chopping block as I would like to have 5 picks in the draft, and then have a play at 2 out of contract players

In the Draft gun midfielders are my first option, no guess picks like McVeigh was this year, I want to see a ready made midfielder drafted as possible. Ruck will be an important spot - 2 will be needed (Menklejohn and a draft pick????) I think K/P defenders aren't a major concern, if one becomes available well go for it, but don't waste a pick on one. LRT, Powell and Hunt should step up in the next 12 to 18 months before really worrying

I hear this all the time!! How much time does he need? Perhaps he eventually can be a good player, but he should have had enough time to demonstrate by now. He's played 71 games. Players more 'advanced/useful' than him at this stage, or near, include A Goodes, P Licuria, N Basset, B Burton, S Goodwin, T Senglein, D Bradshaw, S Black, D Headland, T Notting, B Scott, J Cloke, A Didak, T Lockyer, C Tarrant, A Williams, C Heffernan, D Jacobs, J Johnson, M Johnson, D Peverill, A Ramanauskas, D Rioli, P Hasleby, M Pavlich, C Ling, M Scarlett, A Cox, S Cox, L Hodge, J Rawlings... and the list goes on. I would swap any of these players or others for J Bolton. Why does he need more time than so many other players?

At the end of the year, I think the following will need to have produced very good seasons to keep their jobs:

                D McPherson
                B Matthews
                J Bolton
                R Warfe
                M Nicks
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

LOL - this time last year (and continuing for a while into the season) Goodes was many people's number one trade bait at the end of the season. Why don't we wait a while before we write off a player who:

                  is an past B&F winner - one of only two "home grown" winners since I started following the Swans;

                  dual AA

played decent footy in the second half of the season last year under Roos - 20 goals in 10 games as well as stints in the midfield

has only played one game this year (and was rusty but far from the worst out there for endeavour)

By the way, there's a decent article about Magic on the Age site at the moment - written by Rocket! Worth checking it out in the context of this discussion.

And since when was McVeigh any more of a guess pick than any other player taken at last year's draft. He was uniformly tipped to go top 10 and some pundits said he'd have been right up there with Wells and Goddard had he not been injured the previous year. Maybe we should give the kid a chance...

Lizz didn't I say I want to be proven wrong about Magic???? He has a great amount of talent and in the last few years since 2000 he has suffered from up and down form. Now of course calling for his head now isn't wise and I'm not judging him on Saturday Nights match. As I said I would like to see him do a Goodes and prove me wrong. I think he will and won't even be brought up as a trade bait come September. But the facts are he is getting on in age and if a super deal came up we would be stupid not to look at it. I just was naming a list of players who MIGHT be used as trade bait, not doubting his use for the team. Let him be.

On McVeigh I wasn't doubting the fact he was rated a top 10 pick or the fact he does have talent. I was saying that McVeigh is a long term prospect and might not play until the middle of next year. I was saying that our first pick this year should be used on a more ready made player if such a player comes up. Because if we get a ready made midfielder in the Chris Judd mold and have McVeigh come though, thats 2 gun midfielder we will have starting next year and the need to "Buy" a big name midfielder is lessened, thus saving us money in the salary cap to use else where on our list for say a ruckman or K/P DEFENDER.

                      Robbie,

For the first pick, just choose the most talented one available. We will regret later if we pick the more-ready made choice. Dont mind if a Chris Judd type comes along but that would mean the most talented ones are the ready made too. This does not happen very often.

If we are going to trade Stevens, I would probably be looking to the Bulldogs for a deal. They need KPs and got a sizeable bunch of young midfielders.

Stevens at FF would do well for them.

For mine Seymour has something to add still.... Warfe, well its all over there sunshine.

Trade Saddo? Try the wing get something from his run & jump.

                        Frosty = gonzo
                        Kirk = Trade
Jude is busting his ass week in, week out. And about the only one going in hard at dirt level & yet ppl wana hang him for the odd handball or wayward kick!
                        Adam must stay.
Nicks still has trade value, mind you a 2nd round pick even to a club that needs forward help.... (read Essendon)

Try starting in the midfield and the ruck.... (can we draft back ricky?) a running ruckman and a tap ruckman???? plus doyle as a "forward" ruckman.... geez... coulda, shoulda been good there!

Personally... give me a few more Judes and Adam's... guys that LOOK like they feel the pain of a second loss!!!!

This is hard, cos they might all turn in blinders for the next 18 weeks, but here goes, based on the matches so far. But hey, if Brisbane want ANY of em in exchange for Michael Voss, Acker or Blackie...or Adelaide for McLeod, then they cam take their pick..any or all.

McPherson (sad, cos I've always liked frosty, but he's not performing IMO and adds nothing cept the occasional great long kick)
Warfe (like him, but never been keen on him as he coughs up the ball too often and seems to give away a lot of frees).
Nicks (has been serviceable in the past, but is now well off the boil and may be of interest, though I doubt it, to another club as trade bait.
Saddington (promised a lot; not a chb, is a bit soft, always wants to mark in a pack rather than punch...of limited value to us, but someone may want to pay for him still).
                          Cressa retired.
                          There's five gone...that will do for 2004.

Id keep Matthews as we need someone to run the ball out of defence, maybe just give him some concentrated kicking lessons.
Id keep Jude, for the time being (hes had one top game, and one fair game, but 2 so-so efforts). I would get him to sleep with the footy, always have one at hand to play with, and give him some concentrated kicking lessons.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I doubt there is to many on our list that aren't up for possible trade if the deal is right. There is not alot of talent on our list most are good players and thats all they will be. I still think the Swans can turn it round over the next few years we need a bit of help from the injury Gods and some Star players.

So for the sake of the thread I would delist/trade these

Frosty(delist) - last minute trade fell through with Carlton last year for Prendagast(spelling) shame would of helped out down back.

Warfe(delist) - He is on a five year deal and we will be required to payout remainder, Colless won't be keen on that

Nicks (trade) Port maybe interested again

J.Bolton(delist) - Only if the Deals right

IMHO- we are in most need of highly skilled midfielders and at the same time have too many medium sized defenders- in my book these are the players that need to be traded/ recruited.

                              Delistings:

Dan McPhereson (too slow, nice penetrating kick, but does not hurt sides enough- been on the list since 94- had his chances)
Rowan Warfe (quick, but poor disposal and decision making cost him)
Brad Seymour (great courage- a personal favourite, but injuries and a lack of pace count against "Schnapper")
Heath James (admire the swans loyalty - but like Lee Walker at Collngwood- will never see his best due to injury. He may only be a "rookie" but I still think we are wasting a spot on our list - I hope he proves me wrong and gets on the park this year)

As far a trades go- it is a lot harder these days with all clubs being "shrewd" at the negotiating table- so as much as there are players I would like to trade - you only get quality by giving up quality- so like it or not tough decisions have to be made.

eg. In 98 the swans traded Mooney (one of my favourites) for an early draft pick- I wasn't happy but in the long run it was proven correct as Mooney was injury prone and I believe we got Fosdike with the pick (??) -

Regardless of the players we like or don't like - if the right deal to secure a quality midfielder (or early draft pick) is on offer it would would have to be considered.

Possible Tradebait (that would attract attention from other clubs)

Jude Bolton (can't question his endeavour and has improved, but his foot skills are still below par)
Brett Kirk (great stopper, but doesn't get enough of the ball and lacks penetration in his kicking)
Matty Nicks (one of my favourites- but unless he can return to form on the HBF he does not look a "natural" forward and would have to be considered)
Ben Mathews (hard at it- doesn't shirk an issue, but like Jude and Kirk his field kicking lets him down)

Off limits: (unless Simon Black or Chris Judd are offered in exchange)
Jared crouch (future captain- great role model, clearly the swans best "run with" player)
Jason Saddington (quality, young KPP's are too rare a commodity to trade away- has been great since his debut as an 18 year old- struggled without Dunks this year- but still only 23- will improve)
Magic O'Loughlin (at full fitness is the swans most talented player- exciting to watch and good skills- recent form hasn't been great- but not on his "Pat Malone" there)
Adam Goodes (would need to be both Chris Judd and Simon Black in exchange as he is/ will become our best player. Kicking can let him down at times, but is one of the few "big, athletic utility players" in the game and at 23 still has time to develop further)
