are the coaching staff to blame????

Has Paul Roos changed the swannies from an attacking team a few years ago to a slde that at present doesn`t have the confidence to back there own ability?? I rather see a side lose giving it all to a side presently hanging on hoping to scrape to victory.

I find it interesting that everyone said "Don't get Wallace - he's too defensive. Get Roos, he's more attacking".

Our performances have been on downward trend since the PF loss in 2003, with only occasional blips of good form, and really dived this year.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Well if we are to finish last and pick up those draft picks we should get used to it. Or maybe we should try and win the GF.

I get confused when reading what a lot of people on RWO really want from the team.

I think Roos liked the game Collingwood played to beat him in the wet at Telstra Stadium in late 2003. Hadn't seen Sydney play like that under him before, but i've seen them try to play plenty of times like it since.

I get confused with the rubbish you post.

I want the team to play good, enjoyable football, to win games and hopefully win a flag.

I also don't know what your post really has to do with my comments...

I want us to win a flag. But if that isn't going to happen in a given year (ie this year) I would rather see us playing exciting games of football and lose, rather than play boring football, win a few games, scrape into the finals and bow out in the 1st week in Sept.

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

That's not exactly what people were saying. People here didnt want Wallace because he was seen as too similar to Eade (in terms of being a hard-nosed @@@@@) such that the team would not necessarily change under him. Roos seemed like a breath of fresh air that was sorely needed at the time.

I still stand by that. I dont think Wallace would have done us any good in 2003. It is easy to look back now with hindsight and comparing Richmond currently with how the swans are travelling, but that doesnt achieve anything. Richmond this year (and next, etc) still havent achieved anything compared to what we did in 2003 (and 2004 to some extent). And even if they do end up matching our achievements from 2003, what is to say that Wallace would have done the same with us?

The sooner the swans acknowledge that they cant win the flag this year the better. Then they can worry about blooding some kids that will improve our side in the next year or 5.

I like what I see at Hawthorn at the moment. They know they wont win the thing, or even make the 8 this year, but they are playing an exciting brand of football, and giving the young kids plenty of time to facilitate their improvement.

That was actually some people's argument - I recall needing to post details of Bulldogs average scoring to show them that their preception was mistaken.

I have tried not to compare our 2005 with that of Wallace and Eade as it is way too early to tell how they are going to go. I just find it rather disappointing that we have become the most boring team in the competition - possibly one of the most boring teams in the history of the game.

Agree with Sharpie Mike and Bloods. I just want them to play a style of footy that will give us a chance each week, but more importantly in the future. I dont want to see them tank for draft picks, or play the scrape into the finals game by stifling the life out of middle of the road and bottom opposition teams. I just want to see them "play". The current style of play leaves me with nothing to look fwd too, short or medium term. ATM I'd rather be a Richmond, Hawks, or Dogs fan than a Swans one, knowing that when I watched my side on the w/e something was going to happen, that I was going to see some exciting footy, and see things that were going to make me look fwd to coming back rather than having to endure another low scoring, stop-start dull affair. ATM I'd much rather see the Swans kick 15 goals and lose than kick 7 and win.

Monty's exciting - every time he kicks the ball it's an adventure - you never quite know where the ball will go - although you do know where it won't go!!

That anyone calling for us to tank it need to get used to this trend.

I wasn't arguing with you, just using your analysis to underline my point. We have been on the downward slide since the 2003 PF. With this in mind, people need to decide whether they want us to win more games, or continue to lose to get those picks. We cant have both.

The Match-Ups were just plain wrong on Saturday night too.

Leo's job on Fraser Rd 10 2004 was a fluke (a lucky bonus because we hammered the Saints onballers that day) and anyone who watched the final would have seen that.

No disrespect to Leo because I don't expect him to do that kind of near impossible task regularly. It's like watching a dog cross a croc infested river. It may get across once, but don't try it twice if you don't have to.

We had Schauble ready to go and we left him out of the team. Leo should have been on Reiwolt if anyone (though Lewie is improving).

If the coaches were to blame for anything, it was an ill-conceived game plan, too clever by half.

Leo was fed to the crocs!
