where was the passion?

I watched the game on telly last night, and while I was bitterly disappointed at the horrendous number of skill errors and the often bizzarre options taken by certain players (yet again), I was more concerned by the lack of passion that SEEMED to come from the Swannies. Everytime Reivolt missed a shot, Leo or Tadhg or whoever should have been "in his face"...sure, it would have come back to haunt us the way we played, but some encouragement, sledging or whatever wouldn't have gone astray. I can't imagine the Scotts, Leppa, or MM letting Reivolt off so lightly....
Also, I believe that we had the second lowest inside 50s ever recorded last night...our midfielders were non-existant, may as well not turned up to play. In recent times we have had a tendency to kick perhaps only 1 or 2 goals a quarter, sometimes in a half of football -- and that will never win matches. To me, it seemed like only Goodsie, B1, Kirky, Crouchie, and one or two others had bothered to catch the plane down. Another very very disappointing performance. And what has happened to Pebbles...I thought his tackling, running, etc last night was the worst I have seen from him. no scoreboard pressure from crummers...Smaybe its time to admit Schneids and Bucky are not up to AFL standard...damn I could go on...

This is a damn good point.
For ****'s sake i wish our boys would show a bit more needle.
I'm sure they bleed for the club but they gotta show more emotion on the field.

But on another note:
Australian Rules Football is NOT a complicated sport. Why do the Swans persist in trying to demonstrate the opposite?

I think the club's gotta start listening to these gripes. I used to write regularly to the club and would often recieve a response. That's no longer the case. The club is in real danger of making it's SUPPORTERs feel dis-associated.

Except of course if they flood their D50. Or if your players aren't skilled enough to actually hit a target regardless. Or if they put taggers on your skilled ball getters. Or if your skilled players get injured. And they could gather the loose ball and score at their end.

AFL is very complicated these days. Only the dinosaurs of yesteryear like Sam Newman think differently. Put him on a field and watch him collapse with exhaustion and frustration after just one quarter.

Great point by the OP

One of the main things that made the Lions such a force was their ability to mess with their opponents heads - something sadly lacking at the Swans

Love the Sally Robbins avatar too - in fact so much that I've adopted it myself and encourage others to do likewise

I hope he's watching West Coast right now. They have been awesome since halfway through the second quarter. 14 goals in a quarter and a half - we haven't kicked that many in an entire game since Rd 1.

Just watched West Coast do it. Centre clearance, ran it forward and kicked it long to a key forward one out at the top of the square. Ball dropped to his feet and one of the crumbers picked it up and snapped a goal. Very simple.

I love watching West Coast. At least I get to see them live here in Tassie and they can kick goals,ie more than 8 a game. Plus I lUUUUUv David wirrpunda. Don't tell me there is a change in the air. Never.

Another related stat comparing us and West Coast - we haven't kicked more than 13 goals in a game since Rd 1 this year. 10 mins into the final quarter, they have 15 individual goalkickers....
