When it is time for Mathews to be captain I will be handing in my membership.
    Who is with me?
It is an absolute disgrace that he will be captain of our Club.
I think that the Club should change their leadership group before it is his turn!
It would be great to trade him but I would doubt anyone would want him, I think we should bite the bullet and just pay out the rest of his contract.

I wouldn't go so far as to rip up my membership when Mathews is captain, but I do agree that he is not captaincy material.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I concur with your sentiment, although he will be with us for few more years to come. Never understood the praise he used to receive in the past. He has always been an unskillful HBF.

You never know captaincy mite be the push he needs to take the next step.
Lets just wait and see he has obviously been chosen for a reason. We only see what happens on the field.

The rotation of captains is another example of the disarray in the football dept. Why in hell don't they just plonk for a captain and be done with it. As if Roos after 5 years at the club doesn't know the leadership qualities of his players.

It is indecisive and symptomatic of erratic match decisions and selections. No wonder it is starting to manifest itself in onfield sniping and disharmony.

Will somebody make some constructive decisions at this club.

Mathews is a good player - not a great player, and not captain material. He is a reliable stopper and his disposal (when he gets around to kicking the ball) has been better the last couple of weeks. He is not the problem.
The problem is the misfield (that's a misprint but I'll let it stand). We have two great workhorses in Bolton and Kirk (who should be the captain), a genuine star in Williams, a potential star in McVeigh and a bunch of passengers. Rotate the younger players through the passengers' positions and see if we can find something. And select Schauble. And move Tadhg to the wing.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Move to Wagga and you're in.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

There are nine in the leadership group, the two older guys (willo and ball) decided to not partake in the captaincy because of age. The club had no choice but to include Mathews into the rotation because it would look pretty funny if he was the only young play not to have a go.

I don't think that the captaincy will make one bit of difference, he is not a midfielder and I think he is beginning to be exposed in the back half with his slow pace, get rid of him.

It's nothing short of embarrassing. He's not in our best 22.

Drop him to the SFL - I'm happy for him to play as captain there!!

Someone said he did a good job on Del Santo. Del Santo was the second highest in possessions for the Saints with a total of 17 in a low possession game.

The man is a dud. When he has the footy he does his little dinky sideways kicks or handpasses to someone under pressure and whenever he gets near goal he misses. He does not win the hard ball and most times is on the end of a handpass that has not come from a contest. He gives us absolutely nothing in creativity and is not a running half back. He runs backwards and in circles and it is mandatory from him to kick out on the full weekly.(played a top game against saints because he managed to get through a game without kicking out on the full) Probably deserves votes for that.

He has no redeeming features. He is shizen, flick him.
