    Info from the club-Swans-Melbourne 25/4/03

SWANS v MELBOURNE - The 'Barassi Cup'
The Swans will take on the Demons this Friday 25th April, in the first ever ANZAC Day match, with the two teams competing for the Inaugural 'Barassi Cup'.

The afternoon's entertainment will begin from 1.30pm, when the Swans Reserve side will return to the SCG to take on Eastlake. Come along and catch a glimpse of some of the Swans' new recruits like Jarrad McVeigh, Josh Thewlis and Nick Malceski. Following the reserves, the Australian Defence team takes on a combined Emergency Services team, comprising personnel from the Australian Federal Police, NSW Police Force, Ambulance Service of NSW and NSW Fire Brigades. The organisations were invited to compete for the first ever 'AFL Services Challenge Cup', as a way of recognising their service to country and community.

There will be a simple ceremony to mark ANZAC Day including the playing of the The Last Post before the start of the main game.

    Gates open: 1pm
    Reserves: 1.30pm
    AFL Services Challenge: 4.10pm
Swans v Melbourne: 6.45pm (please note change in game time)

Due to the presentation of the 'Barassi Cup', there will be no 'Kick to Kick' following the main game.

The Sydney Swans are proud to announce Qantas. The Spirit of Australia, as the Presenting Rights Sponsor for Friday's ANZAC Day clash.

Watch out for the Qantas Kids Zones at the Churchill/Brewongle Stand Entrance and SCG Members Entrance (Cricket Pitch Area) where face painters, Stuart Maxfield face masks, balloons and activities will be staged.

Plus look out on the big screen, where you can play the Qantas Quiz. If you answer all three questions correctly you could win 2 economy class tickets from Sydney to Cairns. Plus at 1/2 time we will announce the 'Lucky Seat Winner', where you can win 2 economy class tickets from Sydney to any capital city in Australia. So, get to the game early and be part of the Qantas Kids Zone!

Shame there's no Kick to Kick would have rounded off the day nicely to let the people share in the freedom that the Anzacs provided. Guess the SCG Regime (aah Trust) also needs to be brought down so that the people (Swans supporters) can again feel liberated!
