Roos' wrestle condemns Swans to mediocrity

"While the Swans can boast they are out of the eight only on percentage, the stark reality for them is the fact that they are yet to beat a team in the eight."

That's one positive for the Swans. It's inevitable that whenever Mike Sheanan jumps off or onto a bandwagon, things turn around next week.

Prediction Swans kick 18-25 goals and win by 10 goals next week.

At this stage in the year (especially this year) form lines are so fluid that it's a bit like saying after Round 1, 'you might be top but you only thrashed the bottom team, so it doesn't count for much.' If we'd beaten St Kilda on the w/e, they'd be out of the 8 and so the same argument ('you've only beaten teams outside the 8') would apply!

And if what had beaten St K on the w/e it would have shown that they were crap. 10 weeks in, trends are emerging.

Ten weeks in suggests that Hawthorn, Essendon, Bulldogs, Port and Brisbane are not going to be finals powerhouses this year.

Footballers like to start rumours about themselves. Usually it's not about their high intelligence though as no one ever believes that!

Now it is time for my little rant...

I have a lot of time for Paul Roos and the coaching staff and talk of axing them is a little premature...BUT...

My wife and I and two friends travelled down to Melbourne for the Saints game and were so utterly depressed with their performance. If it was one or two games where you kick less then 10 goals then fair enough but to be consistently kicking 8-10 goals a match and hoping to win is unacceptable.

It is clear, despite what Roos says about the players and game plan that we go out there to simply hold the opposition from scoring rather than going out to kick goals to win a game.

It has come to the stage where I would rather lose every game if it meant that we lost 20.10 130 to 21.10 136. I would leave more content having seen 20 goals kicked then winning in a dour struggle...8.10 58 to 8.9 57. It is all good and well to be a tight, great tackling side that restricts the opposition but go out and kick 20 goals in the mean time. When was the last time we had a 'crumbers' goal like Milne on Saturday night?

Sorry for ranting, but things need to change, some players (Buchanan (discraceful disposal) and Bevan (brings no attacking flair but defensive play) to name a couple need to be dropped.
Schauble needs to be at full back, C. Bolton on the next best and then Leo Barry so he can run off the half back line, not be restricted to the goal square on the oppositions best forward.

Also I have issues when we are told that Ablett is being groomed into a defensive midfielder (tagger). Let the boy run, attack, penertrate with that thumping boot and let the youthful flair come out....but to no avail, he is simply told to follow the opposition's man around and make sure he does not get a stat.

Yes, I will always support the Swans and yes I will always hold my membership but ROOS and coaching staff please do something positive with our team, not defensive rubble...PLEEEEEEEEEASE!!

                          Now I feel better...
                          Swannies for life!

Well said Matt. No need to apologise. As I posted elsewhere, we strongly considered making the trip. Glad we didn't, it was painful enough on tele.

Further to that - our losses:

Kangaroos (6th) - we kick 7 goals, lose by 23 pts

Adelaide (5th) - we kick 11 goals, lose by 41 pts

Melbourne (3rd) - we kick 7 goals, lose by 34 pts

West Coast (1st) - we kick 8 goals, lose by 45 pts

St Kilda (7th) - we kick 8 goals, lose by 43 pts

Against each team we have played that is currently in the eight, we have been woeful, barely able to kick goals and losing by a comfortable margin. This is a very poor effort and suggests many changes need to be made.
