    Why the Swans are ugly

From the H/S today (similar to a lot of stats I posted this year and last year):

    Cause more stoppages

63 ball ups and throw-ins on Sat, equal 11th most in a game this season.
Eight of Swans' 12 games are in the top 12 for stoppages.

    Lay more tackles

Match tally of 93 tackles was equal 18th highest this year. The two highest tallies both involve Swans.

    Shorter games

Game lasted only 116 minutes - 10th shortest of the year.
Average Swans game lasts only 119 min on average - 15th least in comp.

    Few scoring chances

Swans' 29 I50s were fewest this year. Game tally of 78 was lowest for season.

The ave I50s in Swans games is 90 - AFL average is 101.

Swans have played 6 of the lowest 11 games for I50s this year.

    Turn games into low-scoring contests

Combined score was 159 points, 20th lowest for season.

Swans' combined ave of 161.8 per game is the second lowest of all clubs.

Swans' game with Port produced season low of 114 points.

I guess the facts speak for themselves, i just wish we could play enjoyable footy week in week out like the hawks and back ourselves and our ability to win games.
    Come on Magic!

disgusting. in the name of aesthetics they should be allowing the opposition free run through the midfield.

it also means that we can't curse them for a lack of effort too.

ffs. tackling is a GOOD thing in every way. i agree there are other issues, but the more we tackle, the more we get the ball. yes, i am aware of what generally happens once we get the ball.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

i wondered about that one too. maybe it catches out the dummy-spitters who like to leave at 3/4 time.

Ummm... other teams actually get the ball instead...

Less goals hence less time on I guess.

The Swans play this way because we do not have the talent to play a fast attaching game. It's tackle and grind or have little chance of winning any games.
This style has worked pretty well for us over past 2 years.
                Where's the remote?

So it is more that the style of play shortens the game, rather than the other way.

Maybe if we had daylight saving in winter the games would be longer.

Exiting finals with 7 goal losses is not really that great.

What about too many possessions? Or doesn't that make a difference?

And some weeks it worked, some it did not. We took risks and it came off, but we still didn't win a premiership!

I agree. But then lets not have any sniping of Roos for a year whilst we do it, and lets all put our hands up to pay triple the membership fees for the next two years to make up for the sponsorship dollar drying up.

Exactly!!... oh wait, were you talking about 2003 or 2004??
