mostly at the same time, and all laying on the ball . . . .

I don't think there is any courage involved in making those decisions. Bevan is not on baller, he is primarily a defensive stopper to put it politely who provides limited attacking flair. Buchanan's disposal has been discraceful to say the least this season and he MUST be dropped to the reserves.

I don't accept this "they give their hearts and try their best" crap. If half of us ran out for the Swans, we would give our best and try our hearts out too, but in professional sport you need the talent and skill to go with the effort to win a premiership

Bringing in Schauble will free up Leo Barry to becoming almost an attacking midfielder by running off the half-back line where he has been so successful, not confined to the goal square.

So selectors, show your courage in dropping the floating wood (I won't say dead, because if Buchanan could improve his disposal then he could be an asset) and bring in Schauble and Davis if his hammy is ok.

I don't agree with those assessments.

Last year Bevan was instrumental at providing drive through the midfield in short spurts. His courageous marking was a feature of his game. His kicking was mixed but clearly improved as the year went on. He also bobbed up in the forward line to kick some important goals at times.

I do agree that he's not showing it at the moment but I believe there is a decent footballer waiting to emerge. I get the impression he's almost talked himself out of his ability at the moment, so frequently does he refer to the fact he needs to improve. He does and I think he will.

That said, he is not commanding his position in the senior team at the moment.

Buchanan's goal kicking has been woeful but around the ground it's been better - still not perfect but he has set up some important plays, none moreso than in the Essendon game.

I think he's just about holding his ground in the senior team, though if there are others deserving of a chance in the reserves I wouldn't be too perturbed if he made way. Either way, there is little doubt that he needs to do something about all the simple kicks on goal that he is missing.

          .
Liz, I just fear that these types of players who have shown attacking flair in the past (I agree with you re Bevan on his form last year and also Buchanan) are now being groomed to be defensive stoppers or so it looks. Perhaps they are struggling mentally or perhaps that is part of the game plan they are being told to follow.

We have not seen Bevo much in the forward half this year. They do have something to offer, but their present form I believe does not warrant senior selection.

          Cheers,
          Matt

I have serious reservations about Bevan as a defensive stopper, at least at the moment I'd far rather see him being used (perhaps in bursts) as a defensive forward. I wrongly assumed he would be doing that against Aussie Jones last weekend.

I'm also concerned at how much time the youngies currently playing in the firsts are spending on the bench (Last year McVeigh could almost have had his mail redirected there).

Could some statistical wizz tell us who'se had the least gametime?

exactly why I'm concerned with our youngsters, whats better 30-60mins in the seniors or 120mins in the reserves?

I think Bevan lacks football nous and awareness and vision.

i'd say its often less than 30mins, 60mins is being very generous..

Maybe, but it's hard to see how the proposed changes will add drive or creativity to the midfield, which is what is needed . . . in fact it may do the opposite.

From memory, Saddo and Vogels have had the least game-time over the past couple of weeks, and that is usually a sure sign of players about to be dropped. Swapping those two for Schauble and Davis would make more sense to the match committee, I suspect.

Mind you, I'd also like to see Schmidt and Willoughby in for Buchanan and Schneider . . . at least then we'd get an idea of what we can look forward to.

Already brought up and being discussed in this thread

                          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Got to go. May be a future good player, plenty of potential, could be a good bloke, but he reminds me of Terry Thripp ie. 17 weeks out, 5 weeks in, plays well, gets injured again.....

I reckon very much like Wade Chapman, potential, but very unlucky
